Interesting excerpt:

Our initial hope would have been to broadcast on delay only during pre- and post-race coverage, but by using the delay during competition, our pit reporters won't be limited in interviewing drivers, crew chiefs and team owners as compelling stories inevitably unfold under the pressure and intensity of the moment

In other words let the four letter bombs fly. We will catch it.

Will they blur their mouths so you can't read their lips ala Mike Wallace last year...

Just a little late on this one. Then again hind sight is 20/20. Smart move!

That one makes no sense to me for fining/penalizing someone you can not hear. Even during movies where fill in for cursing you can still tell what they were saying. Who knows what will transpire for lip reading.

Someone has tp protect America from Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s mouth. :D

Does that mean they can cuss now? Any takers who is going to test the delay?

I have no problem at all with a 5 second delay.........it's something I wondered for years why they didn't do. Sure would have solved the Janet Jackson thing last superbowl. It also will stop a lot of the acts and anitics dreamed up by the "shock jocks" or people who just want to get a little publicity for doing or saying something that is clearly out of bounds.

Good move on NBC's part.........now, lets hope the other networks and live sports broadcasters follow suit.

Did y'all hear that "shock jock" Howard Stern is moving to Serius sattalite radio where the FCC has no control? :p I can't stand that jerk!

Another reason to use XM Satellite Radio instead of Sirius. Stern sure pushes the use of free speech. Agree, he is a jerk.
