NBCSN LAUNCHES “NASCAR AMERICA” FEBRUARY 24

Daily 5PM ET NASCAR Show Blends News, Analysis and Inside Access to the Athletes, Race Shops and Speedways that Drive America’s Passion for Racing

New Show Sets Up NBC Sports’ Live NASCAR Race Coverage, Beginning in July 2015

STAMFORD, Conn. — February 11, 2014 — The day after the next Daytona 500 Champion is crowned, NBCSN introduces NASCAR AMERICA, a new 30-minute daily show dedicated to the nation’s longstanding fascination with speed and stock car racing. Making its debut on NBCSN at5 p.m. ET on Monday, February 24, and returning each weekday at the same time and place,NASCAR AMERICA will cover the sport from all angles, delivering news, highlights and access to NASCAR’s dynamic stars and personalities. The announcement was made today by Sam Flood, Executive Producer, NBC Sports and NBCSN.

Each episode of NASCAR AMERICA will bring fans closer to everything that drives this American pastime with in-depth access to the drivers, crew chiefs and team owners that are integral to the sport, opinions and analysis from NASCAR’s most prominent personalities, and exclusive looks inside the high-tech race shops and storied racing venues that dot the country.

NASCAR AMERICA will engage the true racing fan in a number of ways, providing viewers with a mix of breaking news, storytelling and daily features,” said Flood. “We’re going to celebrate the traditions as well as the changing landscape of the sport from coast to coast with wide-ranging content that feeds America’s passion for racing.”

Originating from NBC Sports Group’s International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn., as well as a new NBC Sports studio located in the racing hotbed of Charlotte, N.C., NASCAR AMERICA’s primary host is Rick Allen. Allen, who will usher in NBC Sports’ live coverage of NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series racing as lead announcer in July 2015, will interact daily with NBC Sports motorsports reporters Marty Snider and Kelli Stavast. Snider and Stavast, both based in Charlotte, N.C., will operate on location throughout the country to deliver the latest news and features on NASCAR’s drivers and race teams. NBC Sports Group’s IndyCar and Formula One play-by-play voice Leigh Diffey will also serve as host of NASCAR AMERICA.

Alongside Allen in the studio will be a constant rotation of guest analysts offering fresh perspectives and insights. Guest analysts who will join NASCAR AMERICA throughout February and March include NBC Sports NASCAR analyst Jeff Burton, Sprint Cup Champion Bobby Labonte,Kyle Petty, Ken Schrader, and crew chief Frank Stoddard. Future guest analysts, which will include former and current drivers and crew chiefs, NASCAR executives, and even prominent fans such as NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, will be announced at a later date.

“The excitement and energy that the NBC Sports team is pouring into all the great ideas and concepts for NASCAR AMERICA has me convinced that this show will be special for race fans,” said Burton. “I’m looking forward to contributing to NASCAR AMERICA, and watching it as well.”

NBC Sports’ unique position as a multiplatform media destination for not only NASCAR, but also Formula One, IndyCar and several other exciting racing series, provides the creators of NASCAR AMERICA with the ability to showcase a strong mix of motorsports coverage. As such, NASCAR AMERICA will regularly feature input from NBC Sports’ IndyCar and Formula One on-air talent, including Leigh Diffey, Wally Dallenbach, Townsend Bell, Steve Matchett, David Hobbs andWill Buxton, each contributing from various locations around the world.

Background

On July 23, 2013, NASCAR and NBC Sports Group reached a comprehensive agreement that grants NBCUniversal exclusive rights to the final 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, final 19 NASCAR Nationwide Series events, select NASCAR Regional & Touring Series events and other live content beginning in 2015.

With this partnership, NBC’s 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race schedule includes a designation as the exclusive home to the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, when the elite national series races through its final events of the season in an exciting and new elimination format. The Chase culminates with the season-ending championship event, which returns to network television in 2015 for the first time since 2009. Of NBC Sports Group’s 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, seven will be carried on NBC annually, with 13 airing on NBCSN. Four of NBC Sports Group’s 19 NASCAR Nationwide Series races will air on NBC, with 15 airing on NBCSN.

In addition to NASCAR’s Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races, NBC also obtained exclusive rights to practice and qualifying sessions for NBC’s national series events during their portion of the season, as well as rights to broadcast the NASCAR K&N Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Toyota (Mexico) Series, the NASCAR Hall of Fame induction ceremony and NASCAR’s season-ending banquets. Further, NBC is granted Spanish-language rights, certain video-on-demand rights and exclusive TV Everywhere rights for its NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series events.

Say what you will about NBC, they're taking this seriously. FOX Sports Net, during the original contract, didn't launch a NASCAR program until a few days before they took over NASCAR coverage. Same with ESPN and NASCAR Now in 2007. NBC's launching this show more than a year before they start carrying live NASCAR coverage.

Another channel Cox cable doesn't carry...
Why am I paying these guys a dime?

there is no possible way they can say NBC sports any more than the goofs can say Fox sports 1, that, if nothing else will be an improvement. I start low.

I dont think I get this channel either. Not worried as long as the races dont get put on those channels that no one watches unless a specific show is on.

NASCAR will be on FOX Sports 1 and NBCSN in 2015.

Then I guess that will begin the step away process for me.

Not paying extra money to watch dear old NASCAR. Not even about being cheap either. lol

hope they do well. give fs1 competition.

no same time slot for each please......fs1 now at 4 est.

I will only because NBCSN is on the same package as MAV, MASN and Al Jazeera.

Thought I browse around to see if I indeed had it and turns out I do. Odd

I swore I didn't use to get this channel with the current package I have.

NBCSN are showing Olympic programming off and on, caught a women's hockey game today, Russians beat Japan but it was close.

nbcsn -n- fs1 both gotta get household counts up by '15......ta afford big $$ new contracts.
will be lotsa changes by then.

NBCSN more likely to get what they need than FS1. FS1 is clinging to SPEED's carriage.

"by '15 " is what i said.

remember cnn laughin at fnc when they premiered ?

i hope nbcsn is huge success ..... will only elevate fs1's emphasis on racin !

FOX will probably try to get absurd subscriber fees again too. Everyone was going to drop them last summer before the SPEED--->FS1 transition because they wanted $0.80 for the new channel when SPEED was just $0.23.

And FOX Sports 1 had to back down and keep SPEED's old carriage agreements. Funny part, FOX Sports 1's parent company OWNS DIRECTV.

comcast owns nbcsn too. dropped fs1 into std tier....fs2 into higher $$ tier.
betcha nbcsn2 comin after '15.
both will appeal ta hardcore fans w/ qaulifyin.....etc......niche market ..higher fees.

As long as it doesn't end up like NASCAR Now which started at a regular time but ended up eventually being anywhere from noon to 2 am

looks like nbcsn airs ole footage late thurs nite ta compete w/ fs1-n- espn 500 media day stuff earlier.

even old racin stuff is better than other soccer type crap.

That's what I like about NBCSN. They realize they'd be better off appealing to more passionate, niche fan bases rather than trying to become ESPN17 like FS1 is. NBC/NBCSN has already set all sorts of milestones in terms of viewership for such sports like the NHL, EPL, and F1.

Speaking of which...the season premiere of NASCAR Now was at 2 AM Tuesday. I doubt anyone noticed.

nbcsn is tha red headed stepchild.....who just bet stepdad's farm ....that it'll work. same as fs1.
all based on mobile tech future i'm thinkin. .....not just wired households !
by then...only ole farts like me will be tuned in ta nascar on cable tv on sunday. ha!

I've always liked the NBC Sports Network. Hockey is very rarely on cable television, but the NBCSN usually has roughly four games a week. That, along wit Fox Sports Southwest, which covers most Dallas Starts games allow me to get enough hockey. Plus, the NBCSN seems to be covering the hockey games in the Olympics which I doubt you'll find on cable tv. I think their ratings will shoot up once they start covering NASCAR.

But yes, as others have stated, Cox does in fact have the NBC Sports network. My only complaint is that I'd have to move up a package in order to get the NFL Network, which I definitely wont do since I feel like I already pay too much. As Andy stated, if I wasn't into sports, I'd go without cable. When I moved, I tried going without cable, but only lasted a month.

500 media day tomorrow..
.....fs1---4 hrs
espnews---3 hrs

friday..fs1....10 hrs...unlimited practice ....specials..etc

NBCSN realizes that treating sports like NHL, EPL, F1 and NASCAR with respect instead of just using them to fill airtime pays off.

I don't even understand why ESPN even bothers airing NASCAR Now. And I have a feeling FOX Sports 1 will cut back their NASCAR programming even more when they inherit NBA rights from TNT (and maybe some from ESPN as well).

And I don't get it, I don't know why networks treat the NBA like it's popular
