It happened in FBS football a few years ago too. When we (Ole Miss) played Cal I remember people calling it "The Culture War". I also remember watching it on TV and hearing this happen live:

Drove down to Hattiesburg to watch Southern Miss vs South Dakota State. Pretty apparent why USM hasn’t beat a D-1 team yet this year lol.
