Need relief from this "stuff" that has me feeling awful! Head hurts, eyes feel like they're going to pop out of my head, and rest of the body aches. Can't wait till warm weather and I can get out and play in the yard. Now I'll just lay on the couch and try to forget about being sick:( Any advice on how to get better? I'm not sick very often so I'll try almost anything to feel better!

First off, enlist the help of hubby. That will help right from the start. Next, try to get him to give you a nice body rub. Anything that will help get your mind off your aches and pains. The key here is to not think about how you feel, but how you would like to feel. The stimulus around you has to be such that it makes you feel like you are somewhere else and doing something that you really love. Just thinking about it won't work. You've to got really put something into it. If you can get the hubby to give you a good foot massage, you will forget about your sore eyes because they will be closed! :)

Hubby is in Church fixing the church bus! I guess the bus is getting my massage! Last time I was sick, he went to work came back and checked on me 4 hours later. To top it off, he walks in the door, sees I'm still alive, and throws me a can of chicken noodle soup! Let's just say he's not the most compassionate guy on the planet! He will rub my head if I ask and he gives a great foot rub. He's a great guy, just hope I don't have to rely on him in my old age to take care of me. He'll probably roll me in the corner and forget about me!:( I'll beat this thing soon, just HATE being sick and guess who I got this from----yeah, the hubby:mad:

Sounds like a Nyquil moment to me! Sorry you feel so bad girl:(

I'm sure nascarwoman would say drink plenty of fluids, including lots of water. And get plenty of rest.

Chicken soup is Really good for you!

Okay, I'll go with the Nyquil too since the hubby is out of the question. That's what I use as well, but the Mrs also helps out. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Sgbg, Kat is right, rest, plenty of liquids and keep warm. If your nose is stuffed up try soaking in a nice warm tub.
If you have lavender or mint in the house, put some in the water. Just wrap the herbs in a cloth and let it float in the bath. A nice warm shower will also help with the aches and stuffiness. Tea is better than coffee or hot chocolate. The tannins in the tea will break up the congestion. Hope this helps and hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for all the great advice! I did the bath thing and I have aromtherpy candles burning too. Love those! The nyquill thing is out of the question, just thinking of that makes me want to---well you know! I did take some advil cold and sinus and starting to feel a little better. Although I have to say I can't stand Tea of any kind. Having coffee right now and hope to be back to normal tomorrow. Hope no one else gets this stuff and thanks for all the good wishes. Makes me feel better just talking to everyone. :)

See, as long as you don't think about your ills, you will feel better. It's already working, but you just keep going back to the old way of thinking. Just keep that smile and then people will wonder what you're smiling at. That should really make you smile! :)

Back in my days as a radio announcer, I learned real quick to keep plenty of Alka Seltzer Cold stuff on hand. It's the only over the counter stuff that ever worked for me.

I also learned how to lose the hiccups in 10 seconds or less. Think about it...ever heard a DJ with the hics? :D

So what's the secret for the hiccups?

Secret for hiccups:breathe in all the air you can until you feel light headed. Then slowly exhale it out till you feel lightheaded. This pops the air bubble that caused the hiccup.

My Tonic for flu/cold:1 shot glass
Fill with mostly Whiskey,1 table spoon of lemon juice,1 table spoon of honey.Bottoms up! Honey soothes throat, lemon and whiskey break up congestion.
hope that helps you.:)

What always works for me is a teaspoon of sugar, swallow in down quick with no liquid except your saliva. Sometimes the "Old Wive's Recipies" work wonders.

Shady,
sorry to hear your hubby isn't helping - maybe send him out of town for a while. Give a good freind or family member a call for some verbal comfort. that always helps too. Hope you are feeling better soon!

It sounds more complex than it is, but it's never ever failed me.

Take a decently deep breath (NOT all you can hold though), hold it as you swallow 5 times. Take in about half of what you can hold, swallow 3 more times. Take in almost all you can hold, swallow once, take in all you can hold, hold it to a three count, THEN exhale as slowly as possible. Don't gasp on your next breath. They'll be gone. If you keep taking in air, and swallowing with your breath held, the pressure behind the hics goes away. Kinda tough to inhale that many times before you exhale, but it works.
