Need to get a generator.

What a horrible night. I know I won't get much symathy from those down south but 90+ degrees and 90+ humidity isn't the norm here.

Lost power at 5:45pm, at 6:10 it was 81 INSIDE my house! Dead calm, no wind. Power came back around 7 for 5 minutes then out again until 10:30.

I figure if I buy a small Honda powered gen that's just enough to keep the fridge running, a fan or two and a radio I'll be Ok. Or I could say the hallibut and get a natural gas fueled Generac that'll power the whole house and never have the power go out again,,,

During the snow storm we had, we lost power for 2 consecutive days (and about half of the third). We had both fridges running, the internet stuff, and space heaters. We have a 18 year old Craftsman 3000 watt'er.

I have a 3000w which we use about every year during the hurricane season. The only caution I can give you is to have plenty of gasoline on hand. You'll go through some gas in 2-3 days of running. But, it's well worth it. I don't know much about the ones that run LP and have auto start. I know some folks who have them and I've heard some complain. Mostly the system isn't as "seamless" as advertised when you dump shore power and you go UPS. But, that could well be the customer, too?

Yeah, 90°+ days with 75%+ humidity is about the norm for us down here on the Gulf from the middle of June to sometime in September. I'll take it over snow and cold weather any day, though.

SST, do what you can do. Life's a ***** and we all have to live with it. If you can buy a generator, do it, but I'd bet that if the situation is as bad as you say, even that will be a problem.

Remember the BSA motto, Be Prepared.

Ahhhhh, the coolness of my home is so nice when I get home...93 degrees as I write with a dewpoint of 69 degrees. For those who understand what the dewpoint is, yeah, it's misserable here too.

Agreed. Everything still goes off for a few seconds before backups start at school. For testing, they announce the starff to turn off all computers before they cut power. But it's still 5 or 10 minutes before the backup lighting comes on.
