Here kitty, kitty, kitty
It happens every year that someone feels as though the system is unfair and that someone has been left out of the title picture because of the faulty system. There has even been co-champs over the years because of this faulty system. I've heard several different scenarios for a good play-off system, the best that of which is an eight team playoff for the title. But even at that, there will be those who cry foul and the biggest criers will be those who win their conference but will be outside the top 8 in the rankings.
Here's the one that I think is the best. First off, I hate the college football ranking system, but it's been around for all of my life and beyond, so I doubt very seriously that it will go away. Be that as it may, let's have an absolute end to the regular college football season with the Thanksgiving Day holiday being the end. When the rankings come down, take the top eight teams in the rankings and seed them accordingly with four of the top four of the top seven bowl games, leaving all the other bowls for the also rans. The title game will be played on New Years Day prime time. The semis would be played the day after Christmas, two games, and the beginning of the playoffs would be played the week before, four games.
I know that the bowl society and the college foundations will be vehemently against this because why? The money! But there will always be those other bowls.
Any suggestions? Any comments?
