Hi folks - I wanted to introduce myself and join your lively and informed discussions. I am an active member on other special-interest forums and I really enjoy them. I'm long-time Nascar fan and as I have gotten older, I find fewer and fewer people to actually talk about racing. At least not with ones that know what they're talking about. I listen to Nascar on Sirius but it isn't the same as joining the discussion. I'm really looking forward to joining you here.

Though I watched Nascar from time to time as a kid in the 80s, my awakening came in April 1996, when a friend talked me into driving down from Nashville to go to Talladega. I have since been to 17 races at 8 different tracks, and I have watched (either live or on the DVR) nearly every race the Cup series has run since that Sunday afternoon at Talladega in 1996. I truly love the sport, and all that goes with it. For a bit in 2005, I wrote a Nascar column in a local weekly newspaper in New Orleans - and I also wrote freelance pieces about some high-profile legal cases (I'm an attorney) for Nascar in the mid-2000s that were picked up by a couple of motorsports and sports law websites. I never did any of that for money (I didn't get paid!), I just really enjoy talking about Nascar.

I think that sports chat forums are the best way to join other people who know what they're talking about and do it in a respectful way. This forum looks very active (and I love that I had to actually answer a trivia question in my registration). Thanks again for having me around.

Welcome aboard. Who's your favorite driver?

Oh man. I knew that was going to be the first question. My answer is that it's complicated (the guys I started with aren't driving anymore!) For the past handful of years, I have been pretty much a Dale Jr. fan with a handful of guys that I like and enjoy seeing run well. I'm a Hendrick guy (but never that big of a Jimmie fan - he's great but I never felt the urge to root for him). I'm also a Chevy guy, but not so attached to it that I don't like anyone else.

The only way to tell the story is that I began a big Terry Labonte fan. I just really liked his style and the 5 car was cool. I grew to be a Dale Sr. fan and naturally also liked Bobby Labonte. I used to have my pin numbers be 5-3-18. It was great for a while and then we lost Dale and Terry retired. When Kyle Busch came up to replace Terry, it was easy at first - I just stuck with the 5 car. Kyle was exciting and won races. It was cool for a couple of years.

But over time, I just couldn't get over Kyle's attitude and lack of class/grace whatever you want to call it. He's grown up some, and I'm still happy to see Kyle win races - I think he's one of the most talented guys to ever get in a car. Kyle was then out of the 5, and in comes Kasey Kahne. I just can't get into Kasey Kahne, he's just boring all around. At the same time, I always like Dale Jr. and his whole story. I watched him in the Busch (Xfinity) series and his first few years in Cup were great to watch. Over time, I just came to appreciate Dale's whole personality - I think he's just an all-around good guy. And his racing style was actually much more like Terry Labonte's than his father's. When he came to HMS, that really made it easy.

So in more recent years, I have been a Dale Jr. fan - though I still will cheer for Kyle in tight races (as long as he's not being a jerk). And lately, I find myself more and more pulling for Chase. I have always pretty much been a Hendrick guy and I think he's got so many qualities. Great driver who can hang it out there but is a classy guy with a lot of respect for the sport and his fellow drivers. I sense that's where I'm headed as we go through this next youth transition . . .

Welcome and thanks for the introduction. I have been here just since Feb 2017.
I was looking for more NASCAR in my blogging life and was really glad I found this
board. Many times I find out breaking news here first than mainstream media.
There are also spots here to talk about other motorsports sanctions if you want.
Enjoy an look forward to your viewpoints.

Welcome Superchuck500. Always good to have more Nascar fans and more opinions here on the board. I'm a big fan of Nascar's youth movement. I regard Brad Keselowski as the elder statesman of the youth movement, which may be an oxymoron but it works for me.

Is your racing interest strictly Nascar, or are you into other forms of racing as well.

It's always great to add members to the community you'll find soon that this is almost like family we fight we bicker but at the end of the day we all have something in common and I think we truly respect each other

I use go to Kansas race every year and the first time we saw one we were surprised

As a fellow Labonte and Dale Jr. fan, I can dig it.

Welcome to the fun. Started following T. Labonte when he was driving for Hagan. Got to see him beat Gordon at Pocono one time when Jeff ground the gears on a restart. One of my track pals took the photo in my avatar at the Hendrick shop. Texas Terry was a smooth, consistent, hard-charger.

Be sure to get in on the race day threads. Some of the best comedy on the net.

Awesome. I think that was June '95, right? I got to see two of Terry's wins. Talladega (October '97), and Texas (March '99). Great days all around!
