Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jim Desrosiers, I'm from Kennebunk, Maine originally but temporarily reside in Presque Isle, Maine. I am a fan of NASCAR, NHRA, IRL and numerous other sanctioned/unsanctioned racing groups.

My favorite drivers past and present include: Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin, Carl Edwards, Dale Earnhards Jr., Richard Petty, Smokey Yunick, Ned Jarrett, Ed Roberts Jr., Gene Snow, John Force, Joe Amato, Darryl Gwynn, Emerson Fittipaldi, Danica Patrick, Jacques Villeneuve, Juan Pablo Montoya, Guido Cappellini (boats), Danny Lasoski, Bob Chandler (Bigfoot), Bob Middleton (supertrucks) and an armfull of local drivers!

I enjoy just about anything that involves racing two or more of anything with motors, including lawn mowers, bar stools, go-karts, airplanes, trains - anyone for Vespa scooter racing?

My favorite part of racing is the strategy involved, I'm not a fan of crashes but rather smart thinking, preparation and great equipment.

I am the webmaster of http://www.sandyjonesracingflags.com/ and have visited this forum as a guest numerous times and am impressed with the content and knowledge base here. The respect that you have for each other is remarkable too, I can tell this forum is well moderated.

I understand that forums can be under attack by commercial advertisers at times, I guarantee, this will not be the case with me. I am on the road five to seven days at a time and have more productive things to do with my time.

I am here for the conversations mostly but will offer my knowledge of flags, flagging/marshalling if requested.

Thanks for letting me be a part of this forum!

I know most of the flags...

But can you PLEASE explain to me IRL's rule about cars on pit road when the caution comes out? NASCAR's policy is that car is trapped a lap down, but after watching the indy 500 and being at the texas race, why are the cars on pit lane seemingly allowed to stay on the lead lap?

Excellent observations and question!

While NASCAR has changed the rules and elimintaed racing back to the yellow flag, most other forms of auto racing still race to the yellow. Under these rules, if a pitted car can pass the start/finish line (which extends into pit road) he will remain on the lead lap. If the lead car passes the start/finish line before the pitted car can pass the start/finish line, the pitted car will go a lap down.

Under NASCAR rules, cars remain in the order they were in when they passed the the last timing loop. This is where a lot of arguements start when the caution flies: Say Harvick is in the lead going into turn three and Stewart gets a fender under him going into turn four headed for the start/finish line when the caution flies, if the last timing loop they crossed was in turn three, then Harvick remains in the lead even though Stewart was physically in the lead at the time the caution flag was thrown.

thanks. So basically where you pit has a say as to if you go a lap down? Seems terribly unfair....

Also, In the situation above, NASCAR would use the timing system, but if stewart were to oppose the call over the radio or one of the spotters called it in, then nascar would use footage i believe.

Welcome Jim! :beerbang: Are you a trucker?
I lived in S Portland and W Falmouth ME about 100 years ago and my incredible daughter was graduated from Unity. My Aunt lives in York, and used to live near Limestone AFB when my uncle was stationed there.

Just one suggestion.....put that cool link in your sig.

Thanks!

I appreciate the earm welcome! Yes, I am a commercial driver. This affords me great opportunity to see a lot of local racing around the country. I travel anywhere east of the Mississippi.

Welcome. :waver:
If you are ever on Interstate 81. Exit 23, in Tennessee, we have a great local dirt track. Volunteer Speedway. ("The Gap")

In locial dirt track when the yellow comes out it goes back to the last lap, besides cars that were invaved in the wreck (or stoped forward moation)

Nope, Blue, Peterbilt 379 with 70" sleeper and some extras. I drive for a small company of about 35 trucks and 100 trailers.

Been there but couldn't stay for a race. I-81 is one of my common corridors as well as I-80, I-95 and I-75. I travel to every state east of the Mississippi and those on the western bank as well.

In my spare time I also make signs, vehicle gfraphics and letter the occasional race car (nothing elaborate).

Excellent point! I think it depends on the local venue and their own determination of what is safest in their particular case.

So you don't drive for Schneider, and that's OK. I have some net friends who do, and one lives in MA but mostly does his drops in ME.

Kat LOVES PETES! My friend in NC wants one and she has her CDL. Her Dad is a trucker too, and his rig is a HUGE pete.....has ALL the amenities and is BLUE so she calls him Papa Smurf!
Next time you come on down GA 75, please send me a PM cuz we live right close to Dobbins AFB and maybe you could visit us cripples after leaving the trailer at either Walmart on 41 (south of the Big Chicken, or at Ekerds on Terrell Mill.

I love how any place with a big enough parking lot becomes an immediate free for all to dump whatever they have..

at the old location for our community's general store, we now have at any one time up to 5 vehicles, including normally 2 18 wheelers and a professional tree chipper truck.

At my last race, i was leading on the white flag, had a little run in with the sec place car, he hit me, we door banged, he hit the wall, and i got stuck in the infiled (dang mud) the race was called, but i ended up like 8th on the running order and the guy that got togather with me got 6th or so. and there was a car or 2 between us, so i have no idea how they called that one.

Lap3 . . . sounds like the good 'ol boy method of scoring to me.

You should post the lot if you don't want big trucks. MOST drivers will follow your desires. I think you'll find that if one truck does it, others think it's okay. Unfortunately, with the last "Hours of Service" rule change, we have to take a ten hour rest. We used to be able to take shorter breaks . . . now it's a nuisance for not only the driver but places where we have to park as well. Just look at the rest areas now . . . lots more trucks at any one time.

As for Wal-Mart, most are posting their lots now as well . . . but they'll still let a 53' camper park there.
