The first of four 2010 race weekends for the Nationwide COT starts today. The first practice is scheduled for 9:00am. I don't know if it is being televised or not.

2010 - Nationwide COT weekends

Daytona - July 2
Michigan - August 14
Richmond - September 10
Charlotte - October 15

There's now also talk of the new cars being brought to the Cup side as well. Dodge President Ralph Gilles said, “It's up to NASCAR,” adding "the fans will tell us" what they want to see. Ford’s North American Motorsports Manager, Jamie Allison said recently that the Blue Oval is considering bringing its Mustang brand to the Cup Series, if it performs well at the Nationwide level.

Chevy's missing the boat by not introducing their new Camaro in the series!

What about Toyota, aren't they still running the ho hum and mighty scary CAMARY? Any plans in the works for a New car in both series?

I dunno... Does Toyota have a comparable 'pony car" body that they can use?

I wonder how long it will be before the we hear the cry from one of the owners/drivers over one manufactures advantage in Nationwide under the new car? We need more of this or that. It's only a matter of time.

5¢ says it'll be Roush:)

I was thinking the same thing. Remember when NASCAR had new rules every week or so cause someone had a advantage this way or that way. That used to get on my nerves. But I guess it will give us something else to talk about in here.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how these cars race come Thursday in practice and Friday in the race. It would be nice if the cars would level out the competition.

That's one of the things that led to the common template COT in the first place.

Daytona will be a crap shoot just like it always is. I don't think that changing to different cars is going to do anything to level out the competition. The 'haves' will still run well and the 'have nots' will be chasing them.

:D

Seems the only difference will be the body and engine.Chassis is the same as a Cup Car.

Longtime NASCAR owner Roger Penske thinks the redesigned car will make it easier for teams to cut costs while also attracting new investors.

“With the advanced chassis that you run (in Cup), having it be the same that we can run in Nationwide, you’re going to have some of these cars that we might run on Sunday then can be sold or handed down to smaller teams,” he said. “I think that’s a real advantage to get more people in the sport. We couldn’t do (that) now because there’s a difference.”

Hmm ....well this makes me think there will be even more Cup guys racing in Nationwide if the chasis is the same. They probably will be able to use more info from the Nationwide cars to help their Cup rides on Sunday.

Many teams are complaining of little downforce with the new cars. They are saying that the cars seem very tough to handle. With all of the wrecks in practice, it looks like it could be a caution filled night tonight.

And it's the same with Cup practice. 7 drivers to backup cars already.

i don't think this was a true test of how good (or bad) the new nationwide cars are with cup drivers/cars having a wreck fest also. good to see kyle and denny are getting along much better now. <g>

I think the wrecks have a lot to do with the condition of the track. It looked really bumpy when they showed the in car shots yesterday during Cup practice. Glad this track is getting re-paved after this race!

Shorter deck lid=less air hitting the spoiler. Just getting close takes air off.
Track condition doesn't help either.

This race will be like circus maximus, carnage everywhere you look.:)

The more I look at these new Nationwide cars the more it seems like the Challenger has more differences in the body than the others, which IMO is a good thing. I liked the days when certain manufactures had disadvantages/advantages, it made it more interesting. I'm not talking about back in the 60s or 70s, but back in the mid to late 80s,where there were differences, yet a lot of similarities also. Seems to me that this new car pretty much is a Cup car with a different engine configuration (HP). If these cars are introduced into Cup this poses a lot questions. 1.Will Dodge come back in with support for teams running the Challenger? 2. Why have two series so much alike, thought the gripe was to make Nationwide and Cup much different from each other? 3. Will this hinder or help the development of new drivers for the sport? On a side note......what ever happened to the new tire that Goodyear was supposed to introduce this year? I remember reading about it last year, it was supposed to be a little taller and wider, more of a contact patch for improved handling. I know that's off topic, just curious.:)

The tire was just being tested. It wasn't being implemented this year. They didn't have an announced timetable, not that I've ever seen. If someone can find a link, post it.
