The NHRA announced a set of 3 new rules, trying to combat the lack of stability of the cars in the NHRA Pro Stock Class. These 3 rules are in response to the fiasco that took place at the previous event at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Arizona, where 2 cars lost control around the 800 foot marker and flipped, landing far down the shutdown area while still on their roof.

1- The Rear wing has been increased from 0.625″ (5/8″) to 0.75″ (3/4″) to increase down-track rear downforce
2- A minimum rear weight has been created of 1,090 pounds, however the 2,350 pound overall minimum weight is still in place.
3- A splitter, which measures 44 inches in width, is to be placed on the cars. This will create a 0.375″ (3/8″) lip on the front of the nose, and extend 2″ behind the front bumper cover.

Allen Johnson: “The wickerbill is the only rule change that is going to work like they want it to work. The other two won’t affect the car down track at all. To be honest, the front thing [splitter] is probably going to unload the cars and make them worse. Rear weight won’t do anything to change these cars at speed. It will only affect them on the starting line. We’ve emailed (them). The crew chiefs have emailed them. Hopefully, they will change the rules before Gainesville. If not, I guess we will have to live with it.”
