I read the other day where some people are going to try to run another series down here in the south that will have a variety of tracks, including dirt. They are wanting to have 6 races this year with two road courses and at least one dirt track. Every car will have the same motor, purchased through the series and the same tranny. They are trying to make this new series one that is affordable for many people. Talking like $25,000 for a car. If the first year goes well, they would like to expand to 15-20 races next year. They have already got a few names from the ARCA ranks and I believe that Dash series that would participate. There are plenty of tracks down here that could host a race. I read where at least one of the local tracks was a little hesitant about committing to such a series. NASCAR does have a huge grip on most of these tracks. :(

It would be nice for a series to just run short tracks and road courses that included pavement and dirt with some good racing. This series, in my opinion, sounds good. I hope for the best.

Hope they make it.......but, they won't compete against NASCAR unless they get TV coverage and that will be tough without huge dollars backing them.:)

It would be a good idea if ESPN hooked them up. Then they could compete.

I don't think the idea here is for a big series, but then again, who knows. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series cars cost more than what is quoted for the new series. I just suspect they are wanting to get another touring series going that will be affordable. Even at that, I couldn't afford one of those cars.

66, you idea is just what they have in mind. Arca has done this in the past though I don't think they have run any road courses, but they still race at dirt tracks.

Maybe I'll start my own series... Who wants to help?

That's all we need. Teams are already struggling enough to find sponsors, why not start another series. It sounds interesting, though, so I wish them the best of luck. Put it on TV and I'll watch it.

I tried to find the article on the net so I could put a link to it, but the dad burned paper didn't put that article up. So, I had to get the paper out of the trash and here's a capsule of the article. This could be long, but I'll try to edit it and make it as short as I can.

I tried to edit the last post and I had it all finished, but it took more than ten minutes and so the edit didn't stick! :( Now I will have to do it all over, but I'm not going to type the article as I did. Here it is in the nut shell. Everyone would have to purchase the engines, V8 GM motors for $12,500 and the trannys for $3,500 from the series. People could search for obsolete Winstin Cup and Busch series car made available because of the many rules changes. Those can be bought for around 10,000, making the cars costing around $25,000. The series would be called Stock Car Challenge Series consisting of at least two road courses, Virginia International Raceway and Road Atlanta, and dirt and asphalt tracks. He already has the two road courses and one dirt track, Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, outside Charlotte, lined up. He has been talking to various other dirt and asphalt tracks but still doesn't have those all lined up yet. He wants to begin in late April or early May and doesn't want to compete with ARCA or the Hooter's series, but to work around those events. He knows of at least 30 prospective entries, including stock-car veterans Andy Hillenburg and Bob Hill and sports-car driver Shane Lewis. He said that this is mostly an opportunity to get your feet wet in racing without hving to spend $300,000. He wants to see how it goes for this year and if it's successful, the series could expand to 15-20 races.

This will really be a local series around the Carolinas and Virginia. National TV wouldn't be in the offing if any TV at all. If I hear or read any more about this, I'll post it.
