I am new to racing and have a question about what type of notes we should keep as far as stats on the car, track conditions ect. We are running a dirt car. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you get a chance, Go to www.4m.net and sign up for that forum. It's mainly an all dirt car forum and they have a tech section with quite a few guys that know their stuff about dirt racing. Plus there is a lot of stuff to read about setups and stuff.

Notes that we keep:
Car's setup numbers (as set before going to the track); weight at each wheel, caster, camber, toe, cross %, left %, spring rates at each corner, rear end gear, tire stagger and sizes and pressures, etc.
Conditions of the track during practice, lap times, engine rpm (highest and lowest), temperature, humidity. If this is a track new to us then we write down track turn banking and straightaway lengths, where the groove appears to be, etc. (we may have to estimate some of these).
Driver's comments about handling and power, our observations watching the car.
Condition of tires (changes to stagger and pressures, wear).
Any changes we make to the car before the heat race or qualifying.
Conditions of the track during the heat race or qualifying, lap times, engine rpm (highest and lowest).
Driver's comments about handling and power, our observations watching the car. Includes interactions with other cars if they affect our lap times.
Conditions of tires (changes to stagger and pressures, wear).
Any changes we make to the car before the feature race.
Conditions of the track during the feature, lap times, engine rpm (highest and lowest).
Driver's comments about handling and power, our observations watching the car, finish position, our lap times relative to the leader's lap times.
Conditions of tires (changes to stagger and pressures, wear).
Number of laps placed on the engine and transmission today.
Ideas we might want to try next time.
