An article in today's Winston Salem Journal mentioned two new series will be formed....(quote) Realignment isn't the only major project under way within NASCAR, Pyne said. NASCAR will also be adding two new national touring series, to be called the NASCAR Grand National series and the NASCAR Elite series - "trying to build a long-term foundation in a meaningful step-ladder for people to go up through our tours to truck, Busch and Cup," Geroge Pyne chief operating officer for NASCAR, said. (unquote) Has anyone heard any more about this? I'm wondering what these two series will consist of.

Here's what I found about the "Elite" series...

"The NASCAR Busch North Series
The touring series will take on a different face in 2003 as part of the NASCAR "Elite" Series. The former Busch North Series will combine with the Winston West Series and be structured to be a stepping stone to the NASCAR Busch Series."

That is from Whelen Motorsports home page

Thanks and I also did a little searching. One of the series will combine the Northwest and Southwest series and the other Winston West and Busch North series. George Pyne wants to have some sort of "playoff" to crown the champs. Sounds like an interesting plan.

It's getting hard trying to keep up with all the changes they want to make.

I was just wondering if the names will stay the same. Is there still going to be a NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series or will it be called the NASCAR Grand National Series now?

According to the flyer that i recieved from PIR their Winter Heat schedule consists of the Nascar Winston West Series and the Nascar Featherlite Southwest Series, so nothing has changed as far those two out here in the west anyway.

I guess I'm missing the whole point of this new series...

Yeh i think am too....i thought it was supposed to be an entirely" New " series. The Busch North guys are still called by the same name also, they are on the schedules at Stafford and Thompson .

I heard today that this will be last yeay for the dash Series.:( I do not think that series ever got enough attention.

I agree racerX! We attended a couple Dash races last year and they were a blast, but at the same time they were poorly attended even tho they shared weekend dates with Cup races. Too many fans just wanna see the big boys come out and play.
They usually wrap the price for the Dash race into the cost of qualifying or Busch race tix. Maybe those fellas dont wanna share the gate purse?? Dont really know what happened there. Dont really like it either.
