Just wanted to tell any unaware members here that may be planning on entering the US(from Canada or Mexico) by land or sea that the new border crossing rules just started yesterday. You could just use an ID and birth certificate before, but now you need a Passport, Passport card, or Enhanced drivers license(not available in all states/provinces). It took me about a month to get my US Passport in the mail, I applied May 5 and it came in the mail June 1.

I was just looking at an article and saw this
"For the past 18 months, travelers who crossed the border without the now-required forms of ID were given a sheet with information about the coming requirements. About two weeks ago, compliance with the new regulations was about 80 percent nationwide, Corsaro said. Yesterday, it reached 95 percent in the Buffalo region, he said."

BS!!!! I entered the US from Canada by car more than 10 times in the past 18 months including on May 24, 2009 and no one at the border ever even mentioned new rules coming. Good job at getting the word about it out...

And I don't believe the BS about 95 percent of people crossing in Buffalo were using the approved forms of ID.

This information has been in the papers and on the tv for the past year. Where have you been?

I have been in Ohio, not in a border state like Texas. There has been no news coverage about this at all here. I saw a commercial twice on the travel channel, and both times were in May.

I am going on a cruise in September (hurricane season) and have already obtained my passport card. The post office where I got it advised me not to go with the card because you cant fly out of the country with it and if you get somewhere and have an emergency you can't fly back. I figure I can't afford a flight like that anyway and everyone will just have to wait on me to come back if there is an emergency. The cost between the card and regular passport was almost double.

I heard you still don't need a passort for a cruise.
