Newman and Penske to part ways at end of season: UPDATE: Penske Racing and Ryan Newman have mutually agreed to move in new directions at the conclusion of the 2008 season. "We want to thank Ryan for his hard work and contributions to Penske Racing over the past nine years," said team owner Roger Penske. "We wish Ryan all the best for the future and we'll continue to focus our efforts on making the Chase with Ryan and the Alltel Dodge team this season." The driver of the Penske Racing #12 Alltel car for the 2009 NASCAR Cup season will be announced in the near future.(Penske Racing PR)(7-14-2008)
Statement from Alltel: "From the early days in the ARCA series to our team celebration in Victory Lane at this year's Daytona 500, Alltel Wireless has enjoyed a memorable, eight-year relationship with Ryan Newman," said Jeff Fox, chief operating officer, Alltel Wireless. "Ryan has been an outstanding representative on- and off-the track, and we're very proud of the results the partnership has delivered to our brand. We remain committed to our sponsorship of the #12 Alltel Dodge and look forward to having Ryan behind the wheel for the rest of the 2008 season. We wish him all the best in his next endeavor."(Alltel PR)(7-14-2008)

penske and ganassi both spend too much time and $$ in road racing to have good cup teams. Pick one or the other, not both and have no budget.

Sorry mag, but I don't think these two successful gentlemen need your advice. It's really easy to sit in the easy chair and watch the racing action and then say what is needed, but it's another to actually do it and be where both of these men are today.

I'm not doubting their ability. I'm just thinking their resources are being stretched just a hair, because i'm not so sure their road teams aint doin that well either.

If you are meaning road teams as being thier IRL teams, then Penske and Ganassi are both doing very well in the IRL. Chip Ganassi has Scott Dixon who is dominating the IRL right now and is winning the points championship. Dan Wheldon is 3rd place and has a win this year.

For Penske, Helio Castroneves, 2nd in points and Ryan Briscoe, has improved and won the Milwaukee Mile. Both teams are doing very well.

I think Roush was going to kick Kurt to the curb. He knew what was coming.

Jack doesn't like the brashness of the Busch Brothers, but you can't despute there success. Duane

He did let go both Busch brothers.

I have a suspicion Newman will be named as the second driver for Stewart-Haas next week at Indy.

Was kurt already going to penske when jack benched him for a race after his little trouble with the cops in pheonix?

yes. That's why rousch benched him- didn't need him anyways.

If I recall correctly, it was a bit of vindictive attitude on Jacks part, I lost a little respect for him that day. In my opinion, the boss should stand behind his employee, Kurt did give him a championship, more than any of his other drivers did..(in cup)

On the Newman thing, I don't recall him and Smoke being all that close, that team would kinda surprise me. I would think Tony would go with a young gun, a real young gun. But that's just me. Duane

Don't be suprised if Newman takes over the 20 car. I don't think they want Lagono (sp?) to take over full time next year.

I've been wondering if Newman will pull a switcheroo on Stewart and end up taking the 20 ride.

You may be right. Martin Truex Jr. and Tony Stewart have more in common: sponsors, race style, and attitude. Although Truex and Newman are said to be fishing buddies, Tony and Truex have sponsorship connections with Bass Pro Shops. Newman may end up in the 20 car when all is said and done.
