Here kitty, kitty, kitty
Friday night was the first race of the season for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Series and the winner was.... Corey Lajoie, the son of Randy Lajoie. This was 18 year of Corey's debut race and he was the recipient of lapped traffic, but that didn't take away the glow from his victory. He beat Tim Brown by a mere few feet. Tim dominated the race until catching up with lapped traffic. Not being able to pass allowed the following group to catch up. Lajoie was able to pass Brown but Tim got back around Corey later. Again, lapped traffic prevented Brown from moving forward and allowed Lajoie to again make the pass. The last few laps were bump and grind type of laps and though Brown tried to make the pass on the final lap, he failed. After the race, Brown was furious that lapped traffic prevented him from the win. If you've watched Madhouse, you'll know what a bad loser Tim is. Burt Myers had a bad race and made some really bad mistakes and finished several laps down...three of them from penalties. Brother Jason finished 7th after a bad qualifying couple of laps. Chris Fleming's brother Frank started from the pole. Tim, Burt, Jason and Frank were the only drivers that have been featured in the Madhouse.
More news...as I have stated before, Junior Miller will be driving for himself next/this season and has purchase some good but a bit old equipment. Now he seems to have another enemy like the Myers. If you remember, Junior has stated that his problem with the Myers goes way back to a time when Gary Myers, Burt and Jason's father, supposedly owed Junior for a new engine. Through the grapevine, it's been said that Junior called Puddin Swisher, whom he drove for last year and told him that he needed to come by and pick up his parts and that Puddin owed him $8,000. This surprised Puddin and ticked him off. Swisher told him that only when he, Puddin, was at the garage that Junior could bring a truck to pick up his parts and that he didn't owe Junior a red cent. Swisher also told Miller that he would be accessed $400 a day for storing his classic modified in Puddin's garage. Puddin then told Miller that if he used his car and got a teammate to take out Swisher's car that he'd better get four cars because they would all be torn up.
Can't wait for the season at Bowman Gray Stadium to begin...just about a month away.
