Next Ford NASCAR Cup car

I was just wondering if anyone would happen to know if Ford is working on a new car for the Cup series! I was listening to Happy Hours on Sirius NASCAR and Harvick briefly mentioned a new Ford cup car being worked on! Is there any details to what it may be?

What year is the Gen 7 expected to replace the Gen 6? 2020? They might be talking about a Mustang, but I'm not sure Ford would bother making any big changes to the Gen 6 at this point, so they might ride it out with the Fusion for a few more years. Is the production model Fusion scheduled for a refresh?

Also, I'm curious to see what a Mustang Cup car would look like. I'm not sure the Mustang profile would work too well with the current Gen 6 greenhouse. The current Xfinity "Mustang" looks like hell IMO.

Does anyone know when the Gen 7 car is supposed to be ready for racing? I thought it was 2019, but with GM bringing out the Camaro next year that would seem like a waste.

I think they're only producing them through 2020. Basically they're producing the bare minimum required to run in IMSA and WEC until those programs end.

That, and they'd have to bastardize it to make it fit a Cup template. It's about a foot shorter, mid-engined, etc.

I wish I had the skill to properly render hat a 2018 Mustang GT would look like as a racecar from many angles!

Haha I hope he was joking
