NASCAR will make the transition to unleaded fuel one year earlier than previously announced as it plans to have all three series run almost the entire 2007 season on unleaded fuel. The lone exception, involving the Nextel Cup Series, will be the season-opening Daytona 500. Crew chiefs said Friday at Martinsville Speedway they were informed of the decision this week, and a NASCAR official confirmed the move.(SceneDaily.com)(10-21-2006)

I'm glad they are making the move now. Testing has gone well and I haven't heard any complaints. If it's ready, then it's ready, so make the move.

Im for lead in racing fules, it helps lude the motors and i dont see high h/p motors ladting long on just high octane and no lead.

I was told the lead in gasoline somehow gets between the valves and their seats and allows better flow of heat into the coolant jackets of the engine. By doing this the valves stay cooler and do not burn holes in themselves. I was also told that Nichol or several other substances can also be used to do the same thing.
If anyone thinks NASCAR is moving to PUMP gasoline... they better rethink the situation.
Unleaded gas is a politically correct thing to do. And that is all it will be, just politics. There is a chance the new gasoline will be even dirtier than what is used today.
Betsy:rolleyes:
