Bill Belichick and the Patriots have been fined by the NFL for violating league
policy last Sunday by videotaping an opposing team's sideline. Belichick has
been fined $500,000, the Patriots $250,000 and if the team makes the playoffs,
they will surrender their first-round picks.

This was pretty weak penalty in my opinion. They were caught deliberately cheating and caught red-handed at that. I could have seen Belichick being suspended four games or so. This fine seems like a lot, and it is. But it isn't nearly strong enough to scare other teams (or the Pats again) into not cheating.

But, remember they had already been warned last year not to do that any more. Goddell even sent out a letter in September reminding all of the teams they couldn't videotape the other team.
Belichick and the Pats thumbed their nose at Goddell and went about videotaping anyway. They interviewed a Jets player this morning and he said it seemed odd that the Pats always threw a screen pass when they had a blitz called.
It stinks up the whole system and Belichick should have been suspended for several games.
Let's not be afraid to say it: THE PATRIOTS ARE CHEATERS...

Of course, no other team in the league would EVER do anything like that. ROTFL

I have a feeling this stuff is rampant --- the Pats were just the first caught red-handed. The commish felt he had to make an example of him.

And he should have done so, but he chose not to. In NASCAR the crew cheif most definitely would have been suspended a few races, especially in light of the warning being ignored.
