One of the greatest men to ever play professional football passed away this morning at the age of 43. It is believed he died of sleep apthnea(sp?). Reggie White was, in the minds of most people, the greatest defensive lineman in NFL history. But he was an even greater man. His commitment to humanity was equally as legendary.

Many players who knew him talked about how genuinely interested he was in them as men not as football players.

This from a former opponent Mark Shelereth...

Off the field, there wasn't a hypocritical bone in his body. He affected many people with his personality, beliefs and the stewardship of his life. He was one of the greatest and noblest men I've ever been around. Regardless of where you were in your walk in life, he was going to treat you with kindness, compassion, love and respect. We've lost a great man today."

Lots of sadness here in the land of the cheese. The flags at Lambeau are flying at half mast. Reggie will be remembered not only for his performance on the field, but for his performance in life.

The headline over a picture of Reggie in today's sports section:

" THE DEFENSE RESTS "

He will be missed. The packers plan to retire his number. I don't know if the cermony will be this year or at the first home game next year.

Rest in Peace, Reggie :lilangel:

NW...I heard yesterday that they had been planning to retire his number in the next year or two before this happened. It is just a shame that he will now not be around to enjoy that. He deserved that and so much more.

Yes Reggie was a fine player. Few if any equals, no doubt about that. I saw an interview with a newscaster where Reggie was talking about how the people of his race should band together like he thought the Jews and others do and in doing so they would get ahead in this world. He said he thought that as long as they (blacks) depended on white people they would always be 2ed class citizens. The news guy argued with Reggie for many minutes but he held to his opinion of what was going on in our country. The conversation and argument made me think Reggie would soon run for some elected office.

A few years ago i was able to hear him preach, after it was over i walked down to the court where is was at. (it was at the Murray State RSEC) went over to where he was seating, and shook his hand, he gave an alsome serman. I could of asked for his autograph but thought a hand shake would be best. and thats my memory of Reggie not on the gid iron, but a man of God! Thoughts and Prayers 2 hit family
