Some of you may have already heard about the NHL adding more outdoor games next season. It's not really the best kept secret. Today they made one official, with more to come.

After weeks of reports, the NHL has confirmedthat the Chicago Blackhawks will play the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 1, 2014 at Soldier Field.
Soldier Field is better known as the home of the Chicago Bears and this contest will be just one in a series of outdoor games in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series.

There's also (probably) going to be two at Yankee Stadium, one at Dodger Stadium, and one in Vancouver.

The novelty of the thing is gone now. I love the Winter Classic and the Heritage classic, but there's no reason to have any more. They'll wear it out real fast at 6 games a year.

They had a pre season game in the Caesar's Palace parking lot in Vegas about 20 years ago. The ice held up well given that it was 80 degrees. There is considerable difference between LA in January and Las Vegas in September, so I think they'll be alright if they play at sunset.

Maybe but was not good for the winter classic in Philly

I think one of the Yankee Stadium games is going to be Rangers-Islanders, which should be cool. I don't like the idea of doing a whole bunch each year though. It'll take away from the novelty of it all and soon enough it'll be just another event.
