Night qualifing @ Atlanta

That should be exciting.

I think Geoff Bodine has the track record @ 197.+

wonder if that will be toppled?

I don't think they will top that. The record was set on new pavement just like the speeds at Texas this spring.

I was there the day Geoff threw down that lap. For just a second after the speed was posted, there was dead silence in the stands, then an eruption of noise. It was breath-takingly fast.

I like NASCAR's fastest track. It provides for good racing. I just wish it was still at the end of the year, cause Homestead is horrible.

Night-time can put grip in a track you never knew it had before. We'll have to see, it should be a fast pace in qualifying even if it's not record-setting.

Well the tickets to qualifying is only 20 dollars and every one under 15 gets in free with a adult so I am gonna go and probly take my redneck 15 yr old girlfriend she'll love that

The record was set in 1997 after the reconfiguration. Are you sure that Hoosier was supplying tires then? I thought Hoosier left Winston Cup racing after the 1994 season.

I think Geoff was on Hossier for those few races that he had that year

It's prime time!

I know of no other good reason. Track promoters are convinced that fans enjoy the night time stuff more. Since qualifying is on Friday night maybe more folks from the local area will actually come out to watch than would in the daytime.

Look for more and more races to be held in the later hours as well. The majority of fan responses to the night racing at places like Charlotte and Daytona seems positive to the notion.

I was at Ontario years back when Tom Sneva ran 217 while everybody else was still trying to get in to the 210-212 range. There is nothing in the world like being at the track when somebody lays down a in-yer-face record lap.

I mean it's pretty neat to be there when a record is broken, but when they smashed is something special.

Well ya got me thinking, so off in search of what I could find. According to Hoosier Tires web site:

1994 Re-Entered NASCAR's Winston Cup Circuit, winning 4 races with Geoff Bodine. Hoosier tires were also on the car of pole sitter Rick Mast in the inaugural running of the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis.

1994 Decision made to withdraw from Winston Cup circuit due to cost ramifications of race "tire counts".
