From Jayski:

Lights at Chicago? UPDATE Cup race moved to Sat night: Sources have told 1340 WJOL that Chicagoland Speedway has been given a 12 million dollar check from NASCAR to install lights for the 2008 racing season. This would make Joliet's track the 10th Nextel Cup facility able to run night races. There is no confirmation from Chicagoland Speedway, nor any word on how this would affect the now traditional season ending IRL race. Questions also exist on whether this could increase the possiblity of a Craftsman Truck race coming to Chicagoland Speedway.(1340 WJOL)(9-14-2007)
UPDATE: Chicagoland Speedway announced today the installation of lights for the 2008 season. With this new addition to the 1.5-mile, D-shaped oval, Chicagoland Speedway becomes only the 10th Nextel Cup facility [of 22, 5 with Speedway Motorsports, 5 with ISC tracks] able to hold night racing. The NASCAR race weekend at Chicagoland Speedway in 2008 will feature two night races - the Busch Series race on Friday, July 11, followed by the Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday, July 12.(Chicagoland Speedway PR)(9-25-2007)

Thats interesting. Will the IRL run under lights then during their finale race there next year ?

I know the trend is to night racing, but I think that will further dwindle the TV audience. Also, and not that it makes any difference, but with those night races on Saturday night, it means that I won't be able to attend them as I work on Saturday. But as I said, who cares. Certainly NASCAR doesn't. And lastly, I guess they think they, NASCAR, can compete with regular Saturday night racing around the country. I can tell you that here in Winston Salem, when there is a night race during the regular season, Bowman Gray Stadium is still full, even on that Bristol night. I really love to watch night racing in person, but when it's on TV, I'm sorry but I'd rather they leave the racing on Sunday afternoon.

Same here buck. Bristol, Daytona, night races have no effect on the dirt tracks. Im sure some people do stay home and watch, but you can not really tell the differnce.

Never really watched this track anyway, so its not hair off my back.
