Head-and-neck restraint devices are expensive but, tough ****. If you can afford to spend thousands of dollars on a racecar, you can afford to throw out $1,000 on a HANS device. And these need to be mandated, everywhere.

How do you know she was not wearing a HANS? I could not find any news item that said that. It does look like a survivable accident, and my guess is that she wasn't wearing neck protection, but do you know for sure?

I'd say there's a 99% chance she wasn't wearing one. There isn't one single thing that looks safe about that car. Improper seat, no padded roll cages... do people really believe she was wearing a HANS or Hutchins device?

My buddy is a mechanic on a local Sprint car driven by a girl. She broke her neck last year wearing a HANS type device. She's healed up and back at it.
