ARLINGTON, Texas -- In their zeal to set a Super Bowl attendance record, the NFL and Jerry Jones overlooked one important detail: Making sure all the temporary seats inside mammoth Cowboys Stadium had been inspected and were ready for the fans.

A Super Bowl week plagued by poor weather took an embarrassing turn Sunday when the league had to find replacement seats for 850 fans. The NFL also scrambled to find a place for another 400 people to sit inside Jones' $1.2 billion palace and couldn't locate any with a view of the field.

"This is absolutely ridiculous," said Glen Long, a Pittsburgh Steelers season-ticket holder who flew in for the game from Baltimore. "That would be fraud anywhere in the world if you sold tickets to an event that you knew you didn't have. That's just wrong."

Actually, the seats had been installed in six temporary sections, but they went up so late that the fire marshal didn't have time to inspect them, according to a police officer standing near an affected area who wouldn't give his name and an explanation of the situation provided to several fans.

Not much went right for this Super Bowl. The weather sucked. The anthem sucked. The game sucked for me.Halftime show sucked.

I agree with all except the game was actually decent, while I didn't really care who won, the game was entertaining. WTF happened during the anthem....come on there is no excuse for something like that!

agree on all counts. on the bright side at least jerry jones got what he deserved. <g>

It could have been a great game. Watching the Steelers hand the game away sucked but other than that it was everything that I'd expect from the Super Bowl. Someone trying to perform the National Anthem rather than sing it. A halftime show that I really don't care that much about anyway from a group that I don't follow. Less than spectacular advertising that at one time was much more entertaining in years gone by. Oh well..... Congrats to you Pack fans out there. :beerbang:

I gotta feel for those fans. I know I'd be pissed beyond belief. Lawsuit in the works I'd imagine.

I saw some video of either that or one of those uninspected sections on the morning news. Seriously, I mean come-on..... they're seats. What do they expect, do they think that they will spontaneously combust?

The game was fantastic. Any sporting event that comes down to the very end like that one did is worth watching.

I read this morning that 400 of the people who bought tickets for the temporary seats that couldn't be finished were refundeed triple the amount they paid, somewhere along the lines of $1200.

They are paying 3x FACE VALUE.Most of those people paid 2 to 3 thousand a piece for those tickets. Most of those were bought up by ticket brokers when originally offered.

No but they can collapse in a hurry.

A series of memos and photographs documented numerous safety and code violations, among them:

"Blocked paths of egress" for fans who might need to escape in an emergency.

Inspectors found "plans with no engineer seals."

But perhaps most glaringly, one set of plans was uncovered with "no information regarding ... structural stability."

And this: "Structural elements of one set of stands that are not completely secured and supported."
