If you are looking for a race to watch this Sunday you might wanna give the Australian V8 Supercars inagural race from Austin Texas. Those guys always put on a great show. Saturdays events will be shown tape delayed on Speed on Sunday at 9am EST. Sundays events will be on at 4pm.

Thanks for the reminder. I've been waiting for their arrival. I see Mercedes and Nissan have joined the series.

Yeah they have four manufacturers. Holden(GM), Ford, Nissan, and Mercedes, pretty cool. Circuit of the Americas is a fantastic race track.

Really looking forward to checking it out! I'm on my way to Texas now. Have been wanting to see the V8 Supercars for years but have not had the funds for an Australia or NZ trip yet

I love how this series makes it to the us, and AMBROSE isn't in a car?

And it's not live? Really? REAAAAAAAAAAAALY?

i think the sunday portion is supposed to be live.About Ambrose, its so expensive to bring the cars over here, it wouldnt be worth it for a part time ride i guess. Also, there are 4 points races, 2 on saturday and 2 on sunday, if ambrose wanted to do it he would have to skip saturdays cup race. Marcos sponsor Stanley will be there though, on Russell Ingalls car.

hope ya enjoy !

Just discovered V8 supercars.. great series and I'll defintely be watching.. I don't think Ambrose is needed.. Any nascar fan that's tuning in likely wouldn't care given his limited success in Nascar thus far.

V8 supercars are great racing. Nascam could learn a lesson from them.

no lessons here......but i'll watch..should be good.

they are offerin 1 day tickets..$49 ....vs only 3 day- earlier events.....so local enthusiasm must be down ?

You may well be right but put Marcos back in a V8 super car and he would be in the top 4 or 5 or better by the end of the weekend.

The one day tickets are only $49, although that doesn't get you a seat, just general admission. I guess lawn chair can be set up somewhere at the track?
Definitely don't expect much in the way of local enthusiasm. I never figured they would get much a crowd for this. Just not enough awareness of the V8 Supercars in the US. Most of the crowd is probably gonna be fans that flew in from Australia...

The drivers don't have much confidence apparently either. Here is a quote I saw in an article yesterday from Jack Daniels driver Todd Kelly "You don't know if you're going to get 10,000 people there, or 10". I saw that the track/series is hoping for 50,000-60,000 people over the 3 days. I hope their right, but I doubt it...

I'll be heading out to the track in a few minutes, should be interesting.

Best time of the year for real race fans.

Can't go wrong with Indy qualifying on Sunday morning and the ARCA race.

Good times.

ARCA at Toledo always puts on an awesome show. Wish it wasn't this weekend or i'd be there.

Really nice track. If you don't like road courses because its hard to see most of the track, Circuit of the America's is the track for you. I have seats in the turn 1 grand stand and pretty much the entire track is visible. Its a great place. Highly recommended.

Did practice draw a reasonable crowd??

Considering it was just practice day the crowd was alright. They were just selling the 3 day passes ahead so all of the hardcore fans had friday tickets. I think about half the people in there were wearing Holdn shirts, so the Australian fan support of this is strong. Hopefully plenty of US fans will shop up today and tomorrow. I did see a really good spot to set up lawn chairs near the turn 1 grandstand, so the general admission tickets are a good deal.

V8 Supercars up next on Speed. Unfortunately I may only be able to catch the first hour or so but you chaps enjoy

|Edit: Tomorrow's a holiday here in Canada and I plan on being hungover for it ;)

Really great event. The crowd seemed good so i'd imagine they will do it again next year.crazy amount of australians and new zealanders came over for the race. Really liked the open paddock and how much access fans had to all of the drivers. Between saturday and sunday i got autographs from all 28 drivers. That cant happen at major NASCAR/Indycar races. Saturdays races werent great, but they were awesome on Sunday. Great experience. Hoping to come up with the funds to go to a race weekend or 2 in Australia or NZ sometime..

IndyCar is actually pretty good about fan access to the drivers/paddock. Even at Indy. NHRA is the best I've seen though.
I've been to indy races at 7 or 8 tracks and tbey definitely werent accessible for the fans. Usually the paddock is not open to the fans, at least not without an expensive paddock pass. It was all just open for free at the V8 race (like most road course paddocks usually are. The one that i did have paddock access to (they were given free to people who ordered tickets early) was at Toronto a few years ago. I hung out in the paddock a lot. Barely ever even got a glimpse of the drivers at all...

If you do get the chance, come across to the Clipsal 500 here in Adelaide, awesome event, party for 4 days.
If not get to Bathurst 1000 in October, that is also a great 4 days. Let us know if you come over to Adelaide and we can catch up and have a beer or three.

Would really like to go sometime when they run on two consecutive weekends , or maybe the race in December since there is nothing to go to in North America during that month. Other than the street circuits, do they usually have grandstands at the races ? I always watch the channel 7 broadcasts online and it looks like its mostly just lawn chair seating. So, are most of the permanent circuits just general admission that you need to bring a lawn chair for ? I definitely prefer grandstands to just setting up a chair on a hillside. Seems like most of the permanent circuits i've been to in the US/Canada have at least some grandstands/bleachers. The only one i can think of that didn't was Lime Rock.

Unfortunately most of the raised viewing areas(Grand stands etc) have been taken over by corporate facilities these days which I suppose have there place if people are willing to pay the big money but it sure makes it hard for the die hards that just want be near the racing, the cars and drivers. The Adelaide round used to be at a country track (Mallala) which was a good round but not enough gate takings for the promoters. This is what has happened to nearly all of our rounds, Winton in Victoria is a country track ,same with Wanneroo in Western Australia, Hidden Valley in the Northern Territory and Bathurst and that's about it. Sandown is an older track around a horse racing track but in the suburbs of Melbourne Victoria and then there's Phillip Island, probably the best track in Australia apart from Bathurst . Both these tracks have good viewing besides the corporates and are ,I think, a fortnight apart .Check out the website for dates.
