Bill Elliott said in a post conference teleconference he does not plan to run the Daytona 500.

Read the whole teleconference answers from Elliott, Evernham, and Khane

Man I thought for sure the Daytona 500 would be one of the races he would run.

Maybe he just doesn't like the restrictor plate races. Not that I would blame him one bit myself.

I've read a lot of the Elliott stuff today.

He actually didn't rule out running the Daytona 500 in the future. He said he doesn't want to distract Evernham and Khane this time around.

He wants to run the Bud Shootout for sure.

Found the quotes I was looking for....

"I don't want to take (the team's) focus away from the 500," Elliott said. "I might not run it this year and I might run it next year, I'm talking about 2005. The way everything fell together, we didn't get everything in place like we wanted to. We've got a good outline, but yet the main key that I don't want to do, I don't want to take Ray's focus off the 500 with Kasey and Jeremy."

"I would like to go in and run the Bud Shootout because I'm qualified for it and Kasey's not," Elliott said. "Maybe I can help them get a jump start on the 500. Who knows? If things work out, we might end up running it or not. Right now, we don't know."

It's no secret that Bill doesn't like plate racing. As a fan of his, I always keep track of where he is in a race and at both Daytona and Talladega, if he isn't close to the front, he will slide all the way to the back of the pack and run there. He's been injured enough and running in a huge pack at those high speeds isn't something he needs to do now. I'd be very surprised to see him run at either of those tracks, but then again, after missing one or two of those races, he just might want to get back in there. :)

If I were Bill,I'd go buy a car rom Yates or Penske and run my own car.

Even if he doesn't like plate racing,it' still the Daytona 500. And no matter what any of the drivers say, they still wanna win that race.
