No more Earnhardt for Chip Ganassi

Same here. The man is dead & gone. I believe he'd rather see the sport he loved move on, rather than plaster his name everywhere. Live through him, not with with him.

Oh yeah but my Rusty Wallace thread gets deleted... lol ;)
Your rusty Wallace thread wasn't deleted, it was moved into the testing thread. It was about.. testing. That way we don't have 7 dif threads about testing info.

Well maybe the random nascar stuff thread should be moved to this one :p

remember back when dale jr wanted half the company in order to stay?? at this point not doing that looks like a really dumb move. I am sure in chip's mind he was doing all the work so why split half the money?? Chip probably waited until there was so little value left in the 1 car that he said between all the work and effort I put into this the 1 car is now mine. I knew it was going to be a mistake by not giving dale jr half the company. if she had done that the company would still be in business. kinda like what haas did with tony stewart would you rather have half of something great or all of something that isn't worth anything. What is being done with the so called garagemahal?? is the old DEI shop being used for anything??

If I remember correctly, it wasn't that she didn't want Jr to have have the company, it was that she just didn't want to "give" him half the company for just driving the car. She didn't mind if Jr and Kelly wanted to purchase half, but Jr and Kelly felt they shouldn't had have to.

When i was there about 3 or 4 years ago it was a fan attraction and a place to buy soueinirs in the souvenir shop. I don't know if they were doing anything in the race shop part of it or not. It's a pretty cool place though.

That place turned into a museum the day Jr. walked out the door.

I remember that there was a pretty nice house across the road from the garagemahal, do you know if that was where Dale Sr used to live?

The way I understood it was that Jr. used to across and just down the road. I believe that house was originally a relatives of some sort. The Earnhardt manor is/was located behind the facilities. You can do a Google Earth lookup to see the layout.

Thank's, dpk.

think about what you are saying and what is fair and a good business idea. could it be said that dale jr being there is a huge asset to the company even if he is "just" driving the car?? hell yeah you can say that. Further I think Jr's argument and rightly so is that it was him and through his efforts that the company was in the position it was when he told him he wanted half. The next thing is do you really think Teressa offered to sell half to jr for a fair price given all this?? I doubt it big time. Frankly if your Jr getting half the company in exchange for staying on would have been a bad deal for him. Why split the money when your doing all the work. I have a business partner I know how this sort of thing can work. The way to look at the deal if your dale jr, is you would get half the building, cars and equipment but still have to split the money and with them actually asking for 51% managing it all.

now DEI owns NO car in the series and they didn't really sell anything so in the end teresa is left with half of nothing anyways since she merged with chip. The story should be look how stupid Teresa was for not taking dale jr's offer. the company was ridden into the ground until the horse died out from under them. pretty stupid and stubborn headed if you ask me. gene haas gave tony half the company and he wasn't even family!!! now look at gene haas, he has a title under his belt and numerous cup wins. he has 3 top tier drivers on his team along with a huge sponsor magnet in danica patrick. how is giving up half the company looking now?? pretty good if you ask me. half of greatness is better than all of nothing.

It's cliche to say but as always it's the people who are a company's best and most valuable assets. When Jr. left that was the biggest and most important asset DEI had walking out the door.

I think there was a lot of bad blood between the 2. I mean if I'm Jr. I'm thinking what business does Teresa have with the company and fortune Sr. built? I don't think it was ever going to work with those 2. Let's be honest here Jr. is the racer, Teresa was in it for the money and nothing else. She attempted to make herself even richer off Sr.'s name. She took on some partners to try and keep it afloat and it didn't work. Personally I say good riddance, and although it sucks for the Earnhardt name to be dropped, we all know that company had nothing to do with the real Earnhardts anymore.

My thoughts, I personally think Teresa should've handed complete control of DEI over to Kerry, Kelley & Jr back in 2007. Even though the Earnhardt name was on the marquee at Chip's shop, like someone already said, Chip did everything. I can honestly say that when I visited EGR last year, I wondered just how much more money was Chips team making by just having Sr's name in front of his. Teresa was never really involved in the day to day ops of the team, hardly ever went to any of the races. I think when Jamie won Daytona was the last time I can remember her being at the track. I don't think she had much involvement in DEI while Jr was still there, from what I saw Steve Hmiel ran most of the day to day business, Teresa would just show up to victorylane when they won. I'm pretty sure Dale Sr would've wanted his kids to have the operation which by now, had Teresa handed them control back in 08, DEI would be a pretty strong company housing probably 2 Cup cars & the Nationwide operation as well. Who knows what they could've accomplished by now. When I visited DEI last year I asked what they do there now & one of the women said they now manufacture parts for other teams as well as being a permanent museum to Sr which is cool but think of how much more money they would have been raking in had Teresa handed control over to the kids, h3ll she could've remained a small percentage minority owner & still made bank. Why did Teresa make the choice she did? I honestly do not know I mean she's pretty financially well off, not running the race team was not going to put a dent in her pockets. She still has the home & all the land her & Sr shared behind the race shops of course since her husband is also buried on the property. Only a name change at EGR & some peace of mind in his own head that his name is once again first on his facility, that's all. DEI was eventually intended to go to the kids anyway so there was no reason for Teresa not to give the kids control other than just being a beeeaaatttch...

It's freaking God's country out there. I've driven by on route 3( ironic right) numerous times. Beautiful property Sr. had.

As far as Chip. Nbd.

I don't like that "Team Penske" thing also. Sounds like some corporate brown-nosing verbage.

I'll probably be proven wrong by the googlette's on here but I think it came from F1 and possibly Indy car, Team Ferrari, Team Lamborghini, Team Andretti. I think it sounds pretentious but they probably think it sounds classy and glamorous.

Pretentious. That's exactly what it is. Haha

I know Roger's Indy program has been called "Team Penske" for quite some time. I don't know why it just seems weird in the world of stock car racing.

no doubt the relationship with teresa and Jr was strained. the way estate planning normally works is as long as the estate is passed to the wife there is not immediate estate taxes due. dale sr and teresa probably viewed the company as their business together. Add to that the tax implications by passing the company to the kids right off the bat. estate taxes could have been crushing to the business, if the company was worth 40-50 million there could be as much 25+ million in estate taxes if the company went to the kids. I am not saying just give the business to the kids. but I think given dale jr's value to the team at that time it would have been a way smarter move.

unless things have changed, all of Penske's racing programs are under the same roof, so it might all be lumped together under Team Penske for some reason is my guess.

I look at it from Teresa's perspective, she, for some reason hangs on to the business, doesn't know squat about it. Chip comes along and basically runs the thing, but he is handcuffed with a partner, Teresa who is getting a cut and probably isn't doing much for it. She might not want to expand or pay the bucks to upgrade the equipment to keep competitive, she isn't really interested in the racing operation or getting anything out of the deal. Probably set for life without all the hassle, could be a million other reasons. Whatever, be interesting to see if the change helps. Chips bunch is doing pretty well in indycar, they might start to be a factor in Nascar.

They were all under the same roof when i was in their shop in 2012.

I didn't say whether it was right or wrong, just what I remembered.

My two cents I followed Dale since the day he started racing the day he died was the day dei died in my humble opinion having said that worst decision she ever made was alienating Jr. She totally lost side of the racing and focused everything on the money

I wouldn't mind it, but doubt they would. Felix said in '12 they would never go back to Dodge again. I assume due to issues with treatment. I do know they were on Ford's radar to replace RPM in the stable.
