That is what the Winston Salem Journal is reporting. Could it be that Ford will use the Ford 500, their new flagship vehicle that will debut in 2004?

thats what I heard too....the 500 would be the next car ford uses in nascar.....I'm sure there will be an announcement comin soon...

Sheesh. Can Ford not decide on what car to run in Winston Cup? They need to find something that works and stick with it.

Great their going to get a new model and have to work all kinds of new rule changes. Its never-ending. I liked when they raced the T-bird, that was the best.

I would imagine they want a car that shows as a performance car on the track, and street like Monte, and Intrepid,Grand prix.;) I agree that this will bring a whole new set of aero problems though. But Ford will see stronger sales in the marketplace, and thats what counts the most to Ford, and the guy writing the checks.

Once they go to common templates it's all going to be decals over sheetmetal anyways. High priced spec car racing. Yuck.

Even though I don't like all the aero rules changes and all that, I don't want to see them going to common templates. I think that would not be good for Nascar.

Like GM did with the Lumina?:D

But Chevy hasn't changed cars since the Lumina back in 1994-1995??. This will be the second time Ford has changed models. They swithced from Thunderbids to the Taurus if I'm correst in 1998 and now there switching again to something (maybe the 500) in 2004.

Ah, whens the last time you seen a Lumina on the track?????????? I thought they were Monte Carlos????????

Before ya'll run to the bank with this news, consider the source. While Ford has considered changing the marquee for the NASCAR car, it is my understanding that no decision has been made yet.

A couple of items from the same article of Mr. Mulhern's and their most recent update, less than one day later.

Petty to announce Andretti's signing...today? UPDATE NO: Kyle Petty has a news conference set for today [doesn't say where or what time], and it is widely expected that he will announce that John Andretti has signed a new contract. Andretti's future has been the subject of much debate the last few weeks, with several other teams vying for his services. What Andretti has wanted most out of a new contract is the OK to run in the Indy 500 in May.(Winston Salem Journal)
UPDATE: There is no press conference with Petty Enterprises scheduled today, and none is anticipated.(9-9-2002)

US Army and Nadeau...to the #36? UPDATE: The U.S.Army is expected to be on the quarterpanels of the #36 Pontiacs owned by Nelson Bowers and Thomas Beard [MB2] and driven by Ken Schrader the past two seasons. Jerry Nadeau is expected to get that ride. It is unclear where Schrader might wind up.(Winston Salem Journal)
UPDATE: been told that the Army was at Richmond over the weekend and has spoken to many teams concerning sponsorship.(9-9-2002)
