Pavement is officially being removed. When the NASCAR test ban first came about, the track record was reset at 212 MPH as teams used it for california and michigan testing.
Wonder what will replace the malls when they close.Damn so they spent the time to get rid of all the flood cars only to rip the track apart. Smh. Another Westfield Mall coming to you.
If we're lucky, race tracks.Wonder what will replace the malls when they close.
You have to remember that when TWS was built it REALLY was in the middle of nowhere. College Station back then was little more than the home of Texas A&M. Not many people lived there. The roads were an absolute nightmare --- nothing but Highway 6 and it was 2 lanes.Such a shame. I remember when TMS was being built, I wondered why when TWS was nearby and an interesting race track.
Maybe it's just as well. If it was still in operation today we'd be calling it Brobdingnagian and calling for its dates to be moved somewhere smaller and less aero dependent.

Memphis-Arkansas speedway 1.5 mile dirt track Cup ran on in the 50s, high banked. They planned to pave it it but never did. Was on the schedule for only like 3 years and killed 2 drivers. That may be the best idea yet in this whole 'Cup on dirt' discussion but like the other ideas, it won't happen either.
