No NNS For Edwards

While I have don't have a big problem with cup drivers in NNS, it would be a nice change to see someone other than Edwards and Busch.

Drivers are starting to follow Jimmie's strategy. Focus on Cup. Carl and Kyle are out for sure. Not sure about Brad. Harvick is running a few Nationwide races this year and a few truck races, 17 total for the two series I believe.

Jeff, Tony, Matt, Kurt and just about every other Cup champ knew you can't do too much in the lower series and still get it done in Cup. I don't think Brad want's to run 21 NW races, but it seems Discount tire isn't sold on Parker yet. Brad hired Doug Randolph to work with Parker, and Brad more or less said it's a do or die year for Parker.

Kenseth ran 14 NNS races the year he won the cup, 2003.

Stewart was distracted with open wheel until he and Gibbs decided he'd focus on cup.

Yep. I've always said 16 should be the limit if you're serious about a cup championship. I don't think anyone can do it these days, and I feel Kez is hurting himself. I know he wants to keep the #22 team together, so he's staying in the car so DT doesn't bolt.

I've always felt like they should limit the Cup guys to 7 events in the other series, it's just not fair to the regulars that the big dogs run in damn near all their races & win more than half of them every year. Major League Baseball players are only allowed to play in the minors when they get canned by their teams or when they get hurt, NASCAR should be similar. Furthermore, Edwards IMO is a very dirty driver, folks say Dale Sr was a dirty driver & yeah he did some things out there that were questionable at times but Carl has blatantly spun people out again & again, then he gets out of his car laughing after the race, not cool. He won't be missed by the NNS regulars...

The BUSCH series was intended to be like a AAA farm team is in baseball. A place for young drivers to learn and get 'sperience before moving up to the big league.

Having the big league regulars racing occasionally is a good thing. Young(er) drivers can learn from them. Having the big league regulars running every week and for the championship isn't going to help that series. Hasn't it been called Cup lite?

I have to disagree the Busch/Sportsman sreies was originaly developed to be a short track series that gave drivers a chance to race at different tracks against other drivers from around the country. One of the Best things about the original series was that you got to RACE AGAINST the BEST Drivers from all over, Cup included!
If you don't race a developing driver against Better Drivers he Never improves!

It's the old "Fastest Horse in a One Horse Town" syndrome.

Im sorry, but watching Kevin and Kyle win every truck race is BORING.

Watching Kyle Carl and Kez win all the NNS races is BORING

Exactly. It would be like if Tom Brady decided he was gonna go play in the AFL on his off weekends.

Maybe this will help grow the cup series in the future, like it used to. IMO it stopped being a feeder sport when the cup guys ran all the races and won them all.

If it turns back into a feeder sport it'll give young drivers a chance to win some races and attract some big time sponsorships to replace some of the start and park teams in the Cup series.

This is a step in the right direction.

Great for the series

I think it will be great for the series as it will give the spotlight back over to some of the up and comers. It has become all about Kyle and Carl over the years and less and less about what it really stands for, a showcase for the future of the sport. Instead we are looking at a repeating loop of Sprint Cup drivers dominating a majority of the races.

mmmmm, there were 143 different starters for the NW series..Hard to see up and comers when they have so many racers in a year

I remember those good old days before the cup guys took over . They were drawing , what ? Maybe two thousand fans to the Saturday races. New drivers were a long time getting recognized because noone saw them . TV seldom covered the races so we listened to them on MRN . Feeder series ? I remember most of them being older guys ,except for the odd young fella who had family connections in cup. But then, my memory does fade in and out. ;)

Was this news just now officially released? This has been widely known for several months.

We knew Edwards was going to scale back in NNS; it's just coming out now that he will run no NNS races.
