How's this for a kick in the teeth?:
By Mike Knight in the Arizona Republic:
For the first time in almost 50 years, the Valley will not have a major open-wheel race in 2010.

The U.S. Auto Club's Silver Crown and midget cars will not return to Phoenix International Raceway next season, The Republic has learned. PIR is expected to announce today that the Camping World West series season finale will replace USAC on Thursday night of next fall's NASCAR weekend.

Oh, man, that sucks. The Silver Crown cars have always put on a show at that track.
Silver Crown puts on a show at ANY track. In fact, I'd much rather see the Indy 500 run with the current Silver Crown cars than the over-engineered, "touch-me-and-I-break" rear engined things they now run. The 500, back in the 50's, with the old AAA Big Cars and the Kurtis roadsters, put on a whale of a race.
