Everybody, except maybe Jeff Burton's team and fans, are chanting today.

Just some notes here:

A record purse topping $4 million will be on the line when the green flag waves for the 53rd running of the Mountain Dew Southern 500 on Sunday at Darlington Raceway.
The posted awards for Sunday's race are $4,074,160 with the winner pocketing a minimum $149,355. Also included in the purse is a bonus from Winston that could be awarded to the winning driver if he's also the Winston Cup championship leader following the race. The NASCAR Winston Cup Leader Bonus will be worth a record payout of $200,000. The current record payout of $190,000 was set in 2000 when Bobby Labonte won at Indianapolis.
Ø Championship battle...The top five drivers in the NASCAR Winston Cup points race, led by Sterling Marlin (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge), are separated by 145 points, the second-closest margin in NASCAR history between the top five with 12 races remaining. The tightest race at this stage of a season was 1984 when 111 points separated the top five.

There have been 15 different race winners and 13 different Bud Pole winners through 24 races.

Terry Labonte (No. 5 Kellogg's Chevrolet) made his first start (9/4/78) and earned his first NASCAR Winston Cup win (9/1/80) at the Southern 500....

Ø Jeff Burton has finished among the top two in four of last five Mountain Dew Southern 500s. He was victorious in 1999 and registered runner-up finishes in 1997,' 98 and 2000. He finished sixth in last season's race. He also is the last driver to sweep both season events at Darlington ('99).

I hope Mark picks up an 200 g today Scrabble.Maybe he will split that with his fans,Mark here is my address.:p

Doing the rain dance as I smoke this pork shoulder over here...

I hope it's working and I'm not just making a fool of myself for the benefit of the neighbors across the way... :p

Good Sunday morning to you Abooja,I hope that rain dance works too.Have a great day,And enjoy the race,I will be heading over to Rodney Dangerfields[Dad] house in a few.Grab a flight and come on out,I need some new blood at the family reunion.:p Talk to you later this evening my friend.:)

Thanks, Pbunch! Just remember to stay away from the gals who look a lot like you do. They're NOT okay to mess around with at the reunion. ;) :p

Seriously, enjoy the race and the rest of your Labor Day weekend. You too, HS!! I hope we have a race to report on later in the day... :uhmnotsur

Hey Boo,

Being a smoker of some repute myself, two things make me curious.

In NYC, where are you able to run a smoker? Wood smoke?

Do ya plan on eating that shoulder today? Usually takes me about 12 hours or more to get one done.

Hope we have a race, but it is a big ???? looking at the weather.

Had a shoulder I did for our vacation, ain't no finer eating this side of the clouds!!:)

Actually, HS, it's half a pork shoulder, plus it's boneless and I split that in half too. I'm smoking it on a stovetop smoker, this one, to be specific:

http://www.chefscatalog.com/store/catalog/...00034&parentId=

Using hickory, btw. And I'm giving it at least 6 hours to cook through. From what I've read, that should be enough to get it at least somewhat pullable. I'll certainly let it stay longer if necessary.

I've never made this particular dish this way, but the ribs I cooked in this smoker came out pretty decent, so I have hope!

Gotta go baste now (vinegar mop). Any other tips you can convey would be surely appreciated! :)

Well that's a real cute map and all, and the winds do appear to moving the front to the east by northeast but.....what is the closest abreviation to Darlington?

I'm an other coaster and got no idea.

Good morning everybody.:) The forecast doesn't look too good for the race today. But at least they did change it from "showers" to "scattered showers". Hopefully they'll find somewhere to scatter themselves that's not named Darlington Speedway.

Abooja, must you always cook a gourmet meal on raceday?;) Every raceday I wake up and hear about what your cookin and wanna head to the ticket counter to get a one way to N.Y.:D

71Fan: I had no idea until I looked at this map. The red star is Darlington. Try to match the coastlines on both maps. August and Savannah are at the center bottom of the radar map, so right now it seems like the last of the rain is on its way north.

Hope I'm right!

B.C.: This pork isn't cooked yet, so start headin' on over! :D

NO!!! No racing on Monday!!!

If they can squeeze in enough laps to get a Busch race in, they can wait a bit longer and do it for Winston Cup too!

LOL Abooja!! I totally understand your frustration if you have to work. Isn't it interesting that after all the rain we've needed here in SC it decides to show up on a major holiday weekend and race weekend too??? Oh well, guess we'll have to see what happens.

How many are you planning on for dinner?? Sounds so good you may have more than origianally planned. LOL

Adjfan4ever: I don't have to work tomorrow, but I've already agreed to visit my folks for a holiday/birthday type of deal. If this thing gets rained out, I will be absolutely furious that I stayed home all weekend with nothing to do, only to have to go out on the one day the dang race is on. Please, say it ain't so!

Dinner's just for me! Sad, I know. But I don't know any race fans here so it's always just me for race day. Should be plenty of good leftovers, though. And the pork is looking good! Falling apart already. ;)

Just took a look at the "garage cams" over at NOL.

It's raining right now, so at best the start will be delayed.

Ward's car is in the inspection slot, must have changed something.

It looks like it's coming around Abooja. And the rader shows the rain breaking up. Lets just cross our fingers and hope. Cause I've got a golf match tomorrow and wouldn't be able to watch the race. :(

Oh yea, I'm at the beach.:p And it's beautiful down here today.:)

They should move the track to where you are then! :heehee:

I swear, if I watch another Bristol rerun, I'm going to burn out on the place...kinda like I did with Howard Johnson's macaroni and cheese a few years back. But that's a different story...

Get this damn race started already! Jeff Gordon looked like he just arose from a deep coma. He should be ready to roll!!

:p

Drivers have been told to get ready for introduction, and the radar looks clear!! Looks like we might just get the race in today.

If I'm not mistaken Darlington is just east and maybe slightly north of the radar site "FLO". Actually looks pretty good for the race right now.:D
