I've always wondered why alot of teams race shops are stationed in North Carolina, I have like 1 that live about 15 minutes from me, then there's DEI, Im not complaining but why is it that most are here?

I am guessing because NC is or was about in the center of where most races are held.

We used to have a few down here in 'Bama years ago.NC is where several races are held and where several of the old pioneers of the sport had ties to.More involved than that, but that is the quick answer.

Bill France is from North Carolina so thats why every shop is located in North Carolina plus its where all the headquarters and image shops are @

Bill France was born in Washington DC. In 1934 the family moved to Daytona, FL. It was in this area that NASCAR was formed and where its headquarters remains to this day.

The NC area was where many of the early stars were from. It is very centrally located to many of the tracks most commonly run by NASCAR. Once the area became home ot many teams for these reasons, the entire support industry grew up around it. Since the support and supply industry is there, it makes sense for most of the teams to continue housing their base of operations there.

Careful there HS; you tellin' all these fans that the founder of their beloved sport was a Yankee may fire up that war between the states all over again.

I wonder if they realize that almost all of the engineering technology in NASCAR came from the Northeast and Midwest and most of the speed equipment came from the suppliers in California?

Naw, they wouldn't belive any of that, even if we told 'em, would they?

It sounds better to spread the fables about the moonshiner's 'n' their whiskey cars.

LOL!!! boB, I live in Maryland, which has much area to the north of D.C. We all consider ourselves Southerners, of all thigs because we are south of the Mason/Dixon...of course, I know many others would still consider me a "Yankee"...but, in reality...so what? Right?

This is a very interesting question right here and now. I don't know how much you pay attention to the world of Drag Racing, but back in the 80s many teams migrated toward Indiana as "home of base operations". Reason? Indy is pretty much a central geographic location for the NHRA schedule...hmmm...I wonder if the NASCAR teams might start a similar trend in light of the ever evloving schedule?

NASCAR did start in Florida, thats what I was told by my grandfarther.

Him and his family lived right beside North Wilkesboro Speedway (owns the land around the track) and I think that's awsome. I recently tried to get inside the track when we met up in North Wilkeboro but I cant climb that well :D But anyways, this is off topic a little but I think the North Wilkesboro Speedway should be fixed up and turned into a museum or something like that. It's just sitting there rotting away and history is rotting away with it. But I just hate how they are not doing anything to fix the track up. Anyways, that was off a little of what we were talking about but oh well.

Aw heck boB we southerners don't create nothing.......we just show the dem yanks how it should be done with what they already got!! LOL

Windsor, the logistics of relocating to a more central location would likely appeal to many of the NASCAR teams. The problem is the players may have to grown too large to make such a move practical for a long time. Teams like Childress, Hendrick, Roush, DEI, Ganassi, Gibbs and so forth employ over a hundred people each. And the pool of talent now resides in the heart of NASCAR country around Charlotte. Unless the teams all decide to move as one, it would be hard to convince the experienced folks to move with them. I think this area will stay the focus and those who want to be in the game will continue to move into, not out of, the Charlotte area.

I agree with you. Richerd Childress I think it is, race shop is 15 minutes away from me. Then there's one in high point (cant remember who it is) that's like 20 minutes from me.

It would be hard for all them to move somewhere else which will prob. never happen.

Sorry kid...it was a joke. Your typo made it look like you said Grand 'Fart' er. Which would be the king **** in my books!

I still  ya!

I just assume keep them all in the same area. so when I take my dream vacation I can visit most of them within a week.

Hardscrabble hit the nail on the head >>>>>>> nearly all the Suppliers are here in and around Charlotte NC. Mostly up in the Mooresville area >>> They call that place "Race City" because so many shops and Nascar related business's are there!

In Fact >> I even think that some IRL Chassis are made right here in Concord, NC!

Actually, most suppliers have moved an operation to N.C. inorder to support the teams. Over the last decade, or so, there has been an ever so slight and imperceptible move torwards the center of the country. Even the PRI moved to Indy about 6 years ago.

The suppliers will follow the teams if the teams decide to re-locate.
