wrecked my truck going to work a week ago last friday (the 4th).

Tore it down and rebuilt the core at work to driveable condition, brought it home monday when I was laid off (complete other discussion), and almost done with the rebuild.

freeze plugs- done (band-aid) ($15)
fender- on (90)
hood- on (90)
bumper- on (75)
Core support- replaced (100)
radiator- replaced (142)
headlights: en route (120)
driving lights: on and working (15)
HID Fog ballasts: en route (40 w/ shipping)
Cruise control- on
grille- not bought yet (40)
transmission cooler fan harness- on (30)
turn signal wires- inspected and taped

I'm showing $757 all said and done. Over my $600 budget, but I also got some new upgrade stuff instead of old JY stuff (headlights, radiator).

Things are bad when you put half your truck in the bed, but it's looking much better.

That sucks. You up on 30? When it happened? That hwy is getting to be accident central.

You've got that looking OK.

Our trucks are the same color although mine suffered no damage to the bumper when I backed into the front end of my nieces Accord yesterday - man, those Hondas are soft;)

My wallet didn't take it quite so well

Tell me about it. damn plastic cars...makes us wish they were fiberglass again...

Nice work. And a nice choice in tires by the way. Destination A/T's are great!
yea, they're popular on the dodge forum. treating me good.

those are nice. I like my Dakota too. Can't believe they quit making them.
The 2nd gen's you mean? OR did they suspend after the 3rd gen?

This is the 3rd wreck on mine, just keep rebuilding it. I've had it airborn, sideways drift, up on 2 wheels...My mom calls it a tonka truck.

You can't get a Dodge Dakota or a Ford Ranger either. My post lady drives a Ranger 4WD and my neighbor and I drive Dakotas. We aren't happy about it. They get good mileage for a long commute.

The fourth-generation Dakota was discontinued in 2011, with the last one coming off the assembly line on August 23, 2011, ending the truck's 25 year run.[8] According to Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of Chrysler Group, the Dakota will probably not be replaced by a similar vehicle, mostly due to declining popularity of compact trucks on the North American market (see Ford Ranger for similar outcome).[8]

did not know that. well damn. Their loss.

Mine is the V6, but I do have a 408 swap in mind after I've stretched the pro-street definition as far as it will go....nice thing about mopar engines, they sure haven't changed a whole lot in 25+ years...

Got the bumper plast-dipped. Each can is worth 4 coats on the bumper, and I put 6 coats total. I figure the half a can I have left should be sufficient for 3-4 coats on the grille when I get to it.

You got a fancy smancy grill ordered, or are you going back with stock? Me thinks a trip to the alignment shop is coming up soon.

stock from junkyard, but going to add DIY mesh, and shoot it all in plasti-dip to match bumper.

Yeah, that looks sharp. Plasti coat looks like it will work really well. My bumper came painted too, powder coated I guess. Most of my miles are highway high speed, so the factory coating didn't last but a couple years until I had to re do it. I did flat black paint..not good..used duplicolor bed paint next, lays down flat and it has lasted forever. I have to sand and spot it in every couple of years but nothing like all the other stuff I tried.

I screwed the grille up big time, so it's only a ~10 foot paint job.

My not so expert opinion says whatever that fancy expensive silver thingy behind the grill is, it needs to be black. All I see from the front shot is that, takes away from the overall look in the front..other than that it is a long way from looking like it was wrecked. good job magnet, I put a front doghouse on a el camino, lots of work to get it right like you have it there.

New aluminum radiator. I agree. Can't really paint something that gets hot and is aluminum though. Especially considering it has to radiate heat.
