Not Convinced

Sorry. Sad. Scared.

Does anybody else worry about Steve starting up front?

Anybody else get a bit nervous when ya see the 1 Car in close quarters?

Anybody else breath a sigh of relief when his car breaks?

Now don't get me wrong, I like Steve Park. I'm just not sure driving a 200mph racecar is in his (or 42 others) best interest.:(

Please step right up and you show us how to drive the 1 car..ok..seems you have alot of experience. I'll be watching tommorow to see you sub for park...

I think that sitting on a couch and watching him wreck constantly is experience enough to say that he wrecks constantly.

I don't see where 71 is saying he can drive better than Park.

Paul.....nothing to worry about....I've been to 170 in one car I built way back when, and close to it in another. Who knows what I could have done given the right shot when I was younger.

and btw, I've made my share of bonehead moves too.

What implications? That Park has been wrecking alot lately?

He's right.

I get nervous also. Hopefully he'll be okay. He came back too early!!

Steve has made me nervous since way before the wreck. We all have our opinions, and mine happens to be that hiring him as a driver is a waste of a driver seat. Always was. I ain't oo worried, though. If/when he wipes out, the only ones around him will be DEI/RCR guys, so they'll get taken out too. Suits me.

Steve just isnt cut out for a race car anymore. Hes not the same Steve Park And I doubt that he will ever be again. I would not be surprised at all if hes not around 1 year or so from now. Too bad...But thats what you get when you risk racing in the Busch series for nothing.

Still not convinced......dern kid anyways......wonder what he's got to say this time.....sigh....

It has everything to do with Dale, he started that team and everything was up to him. now that he's not here things have changed a little but his basic intentions are still there.

I have nothing but respect for every driver that goes out and does what they do. However I think Steve Park is not as alert as he should be in that car. I cringe when he gets into close quarters racing. Now as far as Jimmy Spencer & John Andretti I really dont understand the logic of them calling themselves race car drivers.

Steve better set down,And have a long talk with the people around him that love him,And he better listen to them.He is missing an important ingredient in his car,And that is full focus.

What I dont understand is what DEI saw in him...That car is very capable but most likely not with Steve in it. I dont like Teresa's decision to keep him in that ride.

Reality Check......Dale is dead. That DEI is hanging on to Steve for another year is imo more a PR decision than a "faithful to our friends" thing. If DEI had dumped Steve without at least putting the ball in his court it would have been a PR disaster.

Steve was not the only driver out there that got loose after sliding up in front of another car. He was however one of only two that wasn't able to keep the car from coming around.

With DJ, I would call it a "sum-buck how'd that happen" but with Steve I would call it the latest of a continuing pattern.

thing is tho, cars jumping out like that at Michigan is nothing new. It's not like the drivers aren't aware of the fact that the rear end is going to get loose when ya pull a slide job to close to the car behind ya. Been watching cars get turned around there for no apparent reason for years. That's Michigan, and that's racin.

The good news is, I won the "Which lap will Park wreck in?" pool. I got closest without going over. :p

Park has that same glazed look that Ernie had when he came back. I know I can't speak for him, but he should say good-bye.

Hey, what's wrong with John Andretti as a race car driver? I just figured he needs a better ride than the Pettys have so far been able to provide. I wouldn't equate his with Steve Park's situation at all.

Im not comparing the situation between Park and Andretti. I understand Steve Parks situation but I honestly think that Andretti just freaking sucks.---But like I said before I have all the respect in the world for him and all of them who do what they do every weekend.

"He sucks, but I respect him."

I think we have different meanings of the word "respect". :)

ok I should have said that a little different than I did and I do apologize for offending anyone. I respect the fact that he can drive a race car, I respect the fact that his name is Andretti. But come on man, do you think he is good.

Dunno, but they (PE) have great sponsors, and until one of them runs in the top 10 consistantly, it's hard to tell if it's the driver, team, car, etc.....

I hate it when someone says a driver sucks......especially when they attempt to qualify the insult with "but I respect him". A driver may not be good (he/she could even be bad)......but to throw out that popular slung it comes accross as just plain insulting. I think Steve has problems and he also scares me a little since his wreck last year........but, he could pull out of it too. I, personally never saw him "tear em up" in a race car but before his wreck he was improving. And about Andretti......I agree with abooja.

I think he's good. He makes the show every week and stays out of trouble, doesn't wreck every week, finishes consistantly in the same finishing range and keeps his sponsor happy.

Was a great drag racer too.

I'll leave to you guys to fight over if Steve Park should be driving a race car. But as someone who is concious of her image I just have to wonder why he continues to do interviews when it is painfully obvious that he can't speak correctly yet. You could see in the interview before the race that he cannot enunciate(big word-getting ready for school) all of his words. Don't you think if he kept quiet that less people would think there is something wrong with him? I'm sorry but his speech makes it seem like he has some brain damage. I know he probably doesn't but it sounds like he does.

Umm, Kimi? A DEI driver shunning the spotlight? Sorry, does not compute. At least he doesn't ape around like All-Lip.

Dale most certainly inserts himself into wherever the spotlight seems to be shinning.

When Newman won the Winston, Dale came over to interrupt Newman's interview. When Tony was in his latest trouble, Dale made sure to make it know that he was "supporting" Tony.

After all, it's all about the Earnhardts isn't it?

So, the reporter's didn't ASK Jr. about Tony's temper tantrums.  He went to them and just offered his opinion?

Gosh, I wonder which of those is the more likely scenario?

Nope. Jr contacted espn.com and stated his position without them asking.

And how DARE he congratulate someone in victory lane.  Horrible of him to do so.

He didn't congratulate someone in victory lane. He ran all the way across the infield and interrupted the interview.

Congratulating someone in victory lane would be waiting in victory lane and congratulating him when the interview was over.

And as I remember it, which may or may not be totally accurate, I interpreted what Junior said more as (paraphrasing here) You won't get away with that sh*t again. Now I know some people heard it as more like You don't get many chances at something like this. The phraseology was very similar, and he wasn't close enough to a microphone (gasp) to hear it 100% plainly. Either way, it's Ryan's party, and he felt compelled to crash it.

As to his personality, I'm with Paul on this one. I do not personally know him, so I like everyone else have to draw solely from what he chooses to reveal via the media. I will say that he is not as grating on the nerves as Mikey All-Lip is. Then again, that trait seems to run in the males of that family. And in Junior's defense, (am I really saying this?) it is not his fault that the media seeks him out, that the TV cameras focus more on him than the 18 cars in front of him, or for that matter that his last name is Earnhardt. I'd say there are times he wishes he WERE Mark Martin so the TV goons would leave him alone for a minute. Well, maybe not Mark....I don't see Mark snagging Sheryl Crow, but you get the idea.

Many of the DEI fans do seem to have the opinion that those guys do no wrong. But so do fans of every driver. I for one will flat out admit that Ward Burton is a very unlikely Cup contender. (But wouldn't you just LOVE to hear that acceptance speech?) More fans equals a better chance of having an obnoxious fan, or an uninformed fan, or whatever. It's simple math. And Junior has a lot of fans, for whatever reason they choose to be his fan. I choose not to be for my own reasons. The debate will never go away.
