For those who have a distinct dislike for NASCAR reporter Mike Mulhern, relish in the fact that he has been laid off from the Winston Salem Journal. I've never been a fan, but since he was my local reporter on the sport, I read just about everything that he wrote since I've lived here. Only a few times did I question his ability or what he wrote. One time he did write that Jeff Gordon was a three time champ when in fact at the time of his writing, Jeffy had already won his fourth title. I dropped him an email, but never heard back from him. I guess he wasn't one who did well with criticism.
Mike worked for the Journal for 35 years, so I imagine that he could retire but still, I would think that he still has it in him to report on the sport from somewhere. I wish that man luck in his future.
BTW, the journal will now rely on the AP for their NASCAR coverage.
