Dirt late model superstar Scott Bloomquist and World 100 winner Jimmy Owens have added their names to the entry list for the Oct. 10 Jani-King Southern Showdown at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Presented by Ferris Commercial Mowers, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series race kicks off Bank of America 500 Week and features a possible $30,000 first-place prize for the winner of the 50-lap feature.
One of the most successful drivers in the history of dirt late model racing, Bloomquist is a three-time winner on The Dirt Track's four-tenths-mile clay oval. The Mooresburg, Tenn., resident won the track's inaugural late model race in 2000 and has back-to-back $50,000 victories in the Circle K Colossal 100.
Owens, who recently won the prestigious World 100 late model event at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, also had an impressive run in April's Circle K Colossal 100. The Newport, Tenn., resident started 32nd and charged through the field to finish third.
However, Owens' best showing at The Dirt Track came in 2005 when he passed 15 cars en route to victory in the Jani-King Southern Showdown, banking $26,000 for his evening's work.
The event's unique format rewards the winner according to the number of positions advanced during the main event. The top-three finishers in each of the six heat races advance directly to the main event and they will draw for starting positions. If the driver who wins the 50-lap finale submitted an official entry form prior to Sept. 15, he will receive the $10,000 first-place prize along with an amount equal to $1,000 multiplied by his starting position.
Other early entries for the Jani-King Southern Showdown on Wednesday night, Oct. 10, include NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver Ryan Newman, Chub Frank, Mike Balzano, Steve Francis, Josh Richards, Austin Dillon, Steve Shaver, Clint Smith, Earl Pearson Jr. and Ricky Weeks.
If purchased in advance, adult tickets for the Jani-King Southern Showdown on Wednesday night, Oct. 10, are $25 for adults and just $10 for children 12 and under.
Reserved seats for this race are also available as part of the four-race $99 SUPER Ticket which includes Bojangles' Pole Night on Thursday night, Oct. 11; the Dollar General 300 on Friday night, Oct. 12; and the Bank of America 500 on Saturday night, Oct. 13.
Tickets are available online at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com or by calling the Lowe's Motor Speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS.
