My daughter appeared out of nowhere Sunday,,FREE FOOD @ MOM AND DAD'S! In addition to her FEMA dog Bella she brought another guest. No not a guy, Rocky, the police dog the dept just retired. Beautiful Sheppard and I have a soft spot for them.
Handler has a new dog and Rocky is having a hard time adjusting to retirement after 10 years. These dogs live with their handler. Rocky won't let the new dog get close to his kids. Rocky was there when they came home from the hospital and considers them his. He whines when the guy puts on his uniform and leaves with the new dog. Matt and his wife went away for the weekend, their aniversary, and mom in law was babysitting. Jen took Rocky to avoid any problems mom couldn't handle. Dog is a sweetheart, but because he's trained as a bad ass dog and if he doesn't accept living with the new dog and adjusting, he'll be put down. Sad. I'm trying to see if I/we can adopt but we don't have the training to have a true attack dog . Off to speak with the chief and town lawyer. I/we will do the training and learn the non violent commands in German until we teach him English :). Also willing to install a mega fence if need be.
After a few quick sniffs Rocky fit right in with our Siberian Naja. Wish me luck, actually wish Rocky
 
good luck, I hate to see a dog be put down without reason.
 
Didn't get a yes but didn't get a outright no either. The chief is on our side, he said he's going to do whatever he can. Had to promise him and some others in the dept visitation rights if we get him.
It's the liability issue. They'd be handing off a possible hand grenade with the pin pulled. Lawyer brought up the fact many home owners insurance companies will cancel or deny coverage if there's a dog with "vicious propensities" and a trained ex-police dog would definately fit that bill. Tomorrow I'll talk with my agent, see what a umbrella liability rider will run, if they'll even keep me. Check other insurance co. if not. The state veterinarian will vouch for us, he used to be our Vet with the horses before he took the state job. Jen's contacting the horse rescue people about letters of recomendation.
I want to save this dog so bad it hurts.
