official: Mears to have a new ride

After reading the link , this makes me think Mears and Vickers might just be teamates at Red Bull.

Interesting twist, I haven't thought of that.

Apparently, Mears is interested in the 25 ride. Mears could also be a candidate for the 88.

either way is a step up from ganassi...I've heard many of their drivers in cup say that they aren't exactly treated well, nor get much of what they ask for because chip is so focused on the non cup racing teams.

I agree 100% with this statement but I really cannot see the 25 as an upgrade from the 42, maybe more of a lateral :)

Not a good move for Casey Mears. He will get the funds and equipment leftovers after Jimmie, Jeff, and Kyle.

And you know this,......................how ????
Comments such as this one make me wonder how many are laboring under the impression the 25 team is an R&D team taking leftovers ????

The 25 team has not had the chemistry of team, pit crew, crew chief and driver. It is not a case where the team is underfunded, inadequate, poorly equipt or running on empty.

Motor sport companies such as RYR, JRR, JGR, RCR, HMS, etc., have found they do better when sharing information and on-track discoveries by each driver and team on every thing, rather than trying to place R&D teams on the surface during race day. Discoveries of R&D when they are not under racing conditions and pressure to give the best to a sponsor have offered better results and more positive feedback. Rick Hendrick is a leader when it comes to determining what works and what doesn't and knows how to implement those changes. That is why they, along with most others, no longer use R&D cars in a race but under test conditions where changes can be made instantly while using devices that are not allowed during race day.

Should Casey Mears go to the 25 team, he will be an asset, providing he can communicate properly. Just as Brian Vickers could go to Robert Yates and do well. If the chemistry is there.

No, this is not a step down for Mears. If anything, it is a step up. Should Vickers go to Yates, that would be a step down. :)

I still think he is going to one of the Toyota teams where he can stick out as a #1 driver rather than just a teamate to some already #1 stars of Nascar.

The only thing that leads me to believe the 25 car is a glorified R & D car is they have the same results regardless of who the driver is.

Well in that case all drivers should know that...and should know better than to get in it.

Mears also might be considered for the 19 car, there are rumblings over at Evernham that Jeremy might be on the way out due to poor performance this year. Although Mayfield has made the Chase the last 2 years he hasn't excelled like Ray had hoped.

I'm not believing it till i see the reports. I just dont see the base for it happening.

Ok ...just what i have read on various blogs , so take it for what you think it is worth. :)

Wheldon to Ganassi Cup team? UPDATE: ESPN's Mike Massaro reported on ESPNEWS Monday Night NASCAR the time could be right for Dan Wheldon, Ganassi's IRL Driver, to move to a Chip Ganassi Racing Cup team in 2007, since the team will have an open seat with Casey Mears leaving the #42 team.(6-13-2006)

UPDATE: According to an official at Chip Ganassi racing :”There is no truth to the Wheldon story.”(CupSceneDaily.com)(6-13-2006)

----------------------------------
I hope it isn't true yet (as the Update says)...I'd like to see Wheldon stay in IRL for a few more years. He's an awesome Indy car driver :)

Hendrick made it official today. That didn't take long. Wonder how long it will be before both drivers leave their current rides early?

OFFICIAL - Mears to Hendrick #25 team in 2007: Car owner Rick Hendrick today announced the signing of driver Casey Mears to pilot Hendrick Motorsports' #25 Chevys in the Nextel Cup Series beginning in 2007. Financial terms were not disclosed. Mears, 28, inked a multi-year agreement that will keep him with the team through at least the 2009 racing season. He will replace Brian Vickers, who is slated to complete the current schedule after being granted a release from contractual obligations to Hendrick Motorsports beyond 2006. "Casey is a talented driver and a high-character person who is going to be a great fit with our organization," Hendrick said. "He has the ability to win races and ultimately contend for championships, so we're thrilled to welcome him to Hendrick Motorsports." In the midst of his fourth full season, Mears has posted two pole positions, five top-five finishes and 21 top-10s on the NEXTEL Cup circuit. The Bakersfield, Calif., native kicked off the 2006 campaign with a career-best second-place performance in the Feb. 19 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, where on Jan. 29 he became the first full-time NASCAR driver to be part of a winning Grand American Rolex 24 team. "I'm committed to winning races and going after championships with the No. 25 team," said Mears, the son of legendary off-road racer Roger Mears and nephew of four-time Indianapolis 500 champion Rick Mears. "This is an opportunity for me to work with close friends and start fresh with one of the top organizations in all of sports. It's an exciting situation for me, both personally and professionally."(Hendrick Motorsports PR)(6-14-2006)

i think this will be good for Mears. Hopefully he will be able to make it work and just keep progressing.

yea, cuz ganassi's stuff isn't exactly top notch and he's got a couple second places, so he should do real good in a top notch car.

Top notch? What has the #25 done lately? not a dam thing IMO, now if it was the 24 or the 48 then I could understand, the 25 has been the redheaded stepchild ever since hendrick has had it, even schrader said that's the reason he left the 25 cause he felt that the 25 was'nt competitive.

That's not what he said when I was watching. It was a mutual decision that he left, because the team and driver were not getting the results they should have. (Just like in Vicker's case.) Individual teams and crews do prepare their cars differently and will get different results, but all Hendricks teams are treated equally and have the same opportunities.

That's what I understood Kenny to say, too.
