The 99 car of Carl Edwards failed post race inspection! Too low in the right rear.

And if history is to be followed he loses 100 points and $100,000.
Carl, it's been nice having you in the Chase. We hardly knew you.

They're saying it might be from something which happened "in race" since they wouldn't want the back to be low. Carl says he expects to be fined, but hopes it's not too much or that they find it was from when he was bumped. Guess Greg gave him some congratulatory bumps... at least that's all Carl can remember. People are all up in arms over it in certain places... you know, people who don't like Carl. LOL They say they let Tony slide by last weekend w/o a fine so, maybe they won't be fining Carl just to keep The Chase close and "exciting". Of course, if it had been THEIR driver, he would have been fined. ;)

... terrible in the first half.

If it wasn't for those debris cautions, Mark would've won.

The Robby Gordon caution was bs.

Edwards' No. 99 Ford fails Dover post-race inspection

Driver will retain victory, but penalties expected this week

By Mark Aumann, NASCAR.COM

DOVER, Del. -- Carl Edwards' race-winning No. 99 Ford failed post-race inspection following Sunday's Dodge Dealers 400 at Dover International Raceway, which could lead to penalties assessed against the Roush Fenway Racing operation later this week.

"The car was found to be too low in the right-rear," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said. "The height exceeded NASCAR's tolerances.

"This is not considered a Car of Tomorrow-type penalty. There's no evidence of manipulation of the integrity of the structure of the car. It's a heights-inspection infraction."

Poston said the car will be taken to its North Carolina research and development center for further inspection, while NASCAR officials will debate what penalties will be assessed.

"We'll go back to Daytona," Poston said. "We always like to have the opportunity to have a couple days' separation. We'll discuss it there and announce it, probably in the middle of next week."

Edwards hopes some post-race bumping from teammate Greg Biffle is the cause for the infraction.

"The worse case would be 25 points, the right-rear being low -- any engineer or crew chief in the garage will tell you that's the last thing you want," Edwards said. "You want the right-rear to be high.

"The only thing I can think of is at the end of the race, Greg came up and gave me a couple of love taps to say 'good job, good race' and hopefully they find that that bent the tail of the car down a little bit. There are some braces bent under the decklid so hopefully that's what it is."

A similar infraction occurred at New Hampshire in July, when the cars of Johnny Sauter and Kyle Busch failed to meet minimum height requirements. NASCAR took away 25 points apiece and fined each crew chief $25,000.

If a similar penalty is assessed, Edwards would drop from fourth to sixth in the Nextel Cup standings.

:bsflag:

If a driver wins because of any illegal advantage (deliberate or not), their win should be stripped. ESPICALLY when it's in the Chase.

I don't hear Jack Roush saying NASCAR's harder on him than Rick now.

What advantage did it give to him?

As for Roush, I haven't read any comments from him. If you know of some, please post a link.

AND #99-Carl Edwards' race-winning Roush Fenway Racing Ford failed postrace inspection Sunday at Dover International Speedway. The right rear of his car fell below the 1/2-inch tolerance for height, NASCAR said. The victory most likely will stand, but Edwards' team is expected to be penalized later this week. Team owner Jack Roush said that there were no changes made to the right side of the car and that he believes NASCAR will find the car is bent. He added it was his understanding that the right-rear was 3/8ths of an inch low, which doesn't make sense to him. Although this is a car of tomorrow entry, the likely penalty does not fall under the tampering-with-COT rules since the structure of the body has not been manipulated. The question NASCAR now will have to answer is what did happen. The sanctioning body is taking the car to its research and development center in Concord, N.C. for further review.(SceneDaily.com)(9-23-2007)
