Buckshot to race at Atlanta: Buckshot Jones will test a Chevrolet owned by Michael Waltrip on Tuesday and Wednesday at Atlanta Motor Speedway in preparation for the Oct. 27 NAPA 500. Jones said the sponsorship deal he has is for one race, but there could be others added to the schedule if adequate funds can be secured. "Until you get the sponsorship, you can't do anything," Jones said. He said he feels comfortable returning to the circuit in Waltrip's car. "I know Michael and I know he's got good equipment," Jones said. "And He's capable of doing what I want to do." Since leaving the Petty Enterprises #44 Dodge after the Martinsville race, Jones has spent his time trying to work out a deal to continue racing. He's also trying to build a career as a land developer, but his desire to race is foremost at this point. In addition to driving the #15 NAPA Chevy, Waltrip has fielded Winston Cup cars this season for Kenny Wallace [#98 Aaron's at Talladega] and Jerry Nadeau [#00 Aaron's at Chicago].(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(9-28-2002)

Does that mean that Michael Waltrip's equipment is actually superior to that of Petty Enterprises?

neither one of his cars did all that well in previous attempts

Good point, Fergy, but I just assumed they had better stuff than a new, single-car owner might, even one associated with DEI.

im not sure but i think in 99 with andretti

I think it was in 1999 at Marinsville that Petty Enterprices last won a race.

I really don't know who to feel worse for: the fans who have to see Buckshot wreck a car again or Michael putting this guy in a car.

I hope that didn't sound like a smart-a*# comment...I didn't mean for it to be.....

I just figured that Mikeys cars will come from DEI.

Michael Waltrip putting Buckshot in his car? Paul, this is you chance to tell me how much Michael Waltrip is off his rocker. I don't know about this.

And as an aside, it is amusing that Nascar's tallest driver in cup is hiring the shortest guy to drive his car.

Maybe Mikey could dress Buckshot in a tux and top-hat, set him on his knee, and do a ventriloquist act before the race?

Boy you guys are tough on ole Buckshot. When Cutiepie first started watching Busch races with me she liked Buckshot Jones! Think it was the name more than anything.:D

I met Buckshot at South Boston one year...he was really cool and talked to us for a while. Its too bad about his luck though........

I think it's really another case of a driver moving up to Cup too soon and without a good ride. These guys are tempted to move up with the promise of getting a good ride and all the backing they would want.......and for not so much money. Then when they can't perform, they get canned. Sort of like what most of us have seen in our everyday work........someone gets a promotion because he/she is good at what they do. They are eager to make a step up so they jump at the chance thinking they will get the help and guidance from their bosses to do well......but they quickly find out, they are on their own. Happens in all walks of life and it's a shame it could ruin your career.......especially if you are good and could be exceptional with a little experience.

For myself, I got no problem with guys that race on the edge and race to win. People that do are naturally going to go over that edge more often than those who don't. I like Boris too.

I haven't been a real racing fan for long, but when I first saw his name "Buckshot" I immediately substituted an F for the B. Not that I have anything against him, I just find it funny. Who knows maybe he will do well, but 99% chance Michael is off his rocker.

I think the ventriloquist is a good idea. Hehe.

I don't know what you are all talking about. I met F-shot and I guess I didn't see the same side of him that you all did. I hope he runs better than he did in that #44 car since Michael is giving him a shot to redeem his reputation.

:FIREdevil

Maybe Mikey needs a tax write-off. Putting BuckSnot in a car is one sure way of incurring some repair bills. :D

I'm just wondering if Mikey did the math? He won't let DW drive, yet he'll put buckshot in the car. Did he clear this with Buffy? She's listed as the car owner.

Well apparently Buckshot was able to pull in a sponsor, and Mikey (and DEI) were willing to field a car. But still... Buckshot???

I don't race professionally and don't bring a sponsor with me. But if some sponsor would like to support me, I'd be more than willing to drive a DEI car for a race. :)

Where do I apply? If Buckshot can do it, so can I.

As a Nadeau fan, I have seen Jerry in both cars. I would have to say Petty has better equipment. The car Jerry drove for Mikey at Chicagoland was crap. After Mikey crashed out of the race, he got on the pit box and told Jerry that the car was crap. Petty dosen't have the best equipment, but atleast it is better than that.

Yeah, b/c Nadeau was basically driving a back-up car. At least Michael was good enough to field a car for Nadeau to try and keep his name out there.

Hey Ciggie, where are you? We found another Nadeau fan!!!

I could find a sponsor for ya RPM :) Just gotta get me tickets for the race though so I can see you kick some butt :)

I would use the term "fan" loosely, I picked Nadeau because you were whining and moaning that I needed someone to cheer for. So I picked whoever was one spot ahead of Michael at the time :D

Yeah I do like how Mikey gives rides to ppl without them even though they aren't driving the greatest cars, its better then not being in the race at all.

Sure Ciggie, that might be how it started, but you know you still pull for him.

A loose fan wouldn't be talking about Nadeau ever race and buying his car.

I hope Buckshot has a good finish at Atlanta, he'll probably finish better than the Petty junk cars. I don't know why Andretti is staying there.
