Reading thru some of the post this morning I have come to the conclusion that the rumors surrounding the re-birth of racingforums.com as a kinder, gentler place where folks actually discussed racing in a civilized manner were greatly exagerated........sigh.....

It's still a pretty good place. Sometimes something hapens like this and it becomes a hot topic. But the Mods do a good job of keeping the name calling down.

Apparently, the mods do not keep the name calling to a low, I have seen moron used several times in posts.

Read my post I said keep it down. I didn't say complety stop it.You not gonna be able to do that. Cause after it is posted it's there. :D

Ya'll trying to start something here? Bring it on!! No Just kidding I was just setting the mood. Actually this IS a pretty peaceful place. Just when something happens everyone has their sides they choose and sometimes goes a little overboard trying to proove they are right or defending a certain driver. The Mods does their best to control the worst name calling sometimes action has to be taken if one doesn't listen.
But all-in-all, this is a nice place.

First off, and in defense of all the mods, If anyone thinks that the mods are here to completely stop any and every little incident that someone finds out of line, you are sadl mistaken.

This is pretty much an open forum to anyone who choses to join. That means that just like society, there are gonna be folks whose opinions and manner of expressing that opinion you are not going to like. Dot period end. Nothing anyone can do about it.

The mods are not present to baby sit every post every minute of every hour of every day. They do reasonable expect folks who post here to act in a manner similar to an adult member of the human race. Only when someone goes over the acceptable lines of profanity, vulgarity, or into personal attacks should their powers be required.

Little childish behavour of calling folks idiots, morons, and such are not appreciated, but unavoidable at times. If someone, anyone, is suggesting that every single time such an act occurs that poster should be tossed, you find that all three or four of those left would bore each other out of their respective minds.

Respect each other and police your own posts without trying to police everyone around you.

This is my opinion and mine only. It is not written as a mod, but as someone who has been around this dem block way to many times to get all bent over a few words or attitudes that I personally do not approve of.

Okay HS just wondering who the 3 or 4 that would be allowed to remain would be...

Not saying I expect anyone....including the mods....to do anything. Not saying I expect anyone to behave in any particular manner. Not saying any board about any thing be any way at all.

And I wholly disagree re childish name calling being unavoidable. I have been a member of a certain list of just over 50 people that has in fact risen above what has become acceptable tho unappreciated behavior via the written word.

Everybody knows the rules. Everybody knows the rules are strcitly enforced. And everybody knows that there are NO third chances. Three strikes and yer out. In the 5 or 6 years since this particular yahoo group has been together, there has only been one person banned, although a great number of folks have left on thier own after discovering that (I suppose) they are not capable of adult behavior.

I might also add that applicants must meet a certain eligibillity requirement and that most members have been invited by other members and that if you ask me what the name of the group is, I will tell you only if I get the feeling you should know. Not really a secret but very low key.

Blah, this is peaceful man.

Go to the "other forum" and see how nasty it gets over there.

Yeah, there's lots of chicken wusses and buttholes and asshats that've come to this place in the past few days. I respect their opinion but then some of them start to turn their attention to insulting the normal members.

Well, we'll brave the storm. As far as I'm concerned, the mods and admins have done an adequate job to quell this recent problem. At least we pay you mods well to put up with all this stuff  Oh wait, I just noticed we dont pay you, my mistake.

71fan while i agree that having a nice calm all eutopia forum would be great. This is racing, like politics everyone has their opinion. and not everyone is going to like that opinion. And while having 50 members that are privately invited and screened is cool there are over 1400 members signed here(too bad we cant get them all to post.) and trying to control everyones attitude and posting ability is a huge task. The Mods do a damn fine job here. and we have things set into place for the members who cant get over the urge to flame and attack other members.

I agree that it can be a huge task Sam. But I also note that each and every board/group is only as eutopian as the standards it sets for itself.

In fact I belong to three other email groups just like the one (tho of a different nature and not as low key) I spoke of that have hundreds of members that get along just fine without flaming etc etc etc. Whether it's because the members (ahem) KNOW.....or not is anybody's guess. It's just something that members don't do.

And some members are as passionate about their calling.....tortoise and turtle preservation....as even the most ardent racing fans.

A huge war (for lack of a better word) on how best to preserve certain species.....I have 10 endangered desert tortoises at the moment....has developed over the years. The largest point of contention is "egg destruction" as a means to keep diseases from spreading back to the wild.

On the one side are those that think the desert tortoise has no chance of survival in the wild....I be one of them and actively breed DT's which is in fact illegal except under certain criteria which I do meet btw.....while on the other side are the radical greenies out to save the world form itself. Yet somehow the common ground of sharing information overshadows personal agendas to the point that personal attacks simply don't happen.

Anyways, as with all things every cloud has a silver lining. And while hoping for gold is worthwhile, taking the silver has it's own rewards. :D

I think it's just an offshoot of being passionate fans...I think the mods here do a very good job of trying to keep things under control, and most of the time it's a very easygoing place, but there are times (like now) that people are going to get excited and have different opinions, and if we didn't care, we wouldn't get excited, so it's not such a bad thing.

Of course, calling people names is just silly, but in the "heat of the moment", so to speak, it will happen, and I can't see it getting out of hand around here - I think things will be just fine!

Keep smiling...:)
