..just reported that Tony Stewart and Chip Ganassi (sp?) is close to signing a 5 year, 5 million per year contract. They also said the sponser after him is 'Target'. What do ya think of this?

Well like I said in another post. 5 million is a lot of money. :D
Oh by the way. I thought you was gonna try to go back to Bud Stud.

Crap.

What's going to happen to Casey Mears? Will he still be with Ganassi, but a different sponsor? I'm all confused...

OH NO, I just can't picture Tony in a Target Drive. He NEEDS to stay orange!!!
Until I see it confirmed, I can't believe it!

I wonder what paul thinks of all this...
We will never know... :(

I can't believe that Gibbs would let Stewart go!!! But now maybe Ward could go to Gibbs, like Labonte did!!! :)

Here is what wouldn't surprise me...

Tony Stewart goes to the #41...
Casey Mears goes to the #30...
Ward Burton goes to the #20...
Scott Wimmer goes to the #22...
Steve Park goes to Busch Series...

Bobby Labonte went from BIll Davis to Gibbs, and It might work out for Ward as well...

I hope Steve Park stays in WC. He's shown that he can run well in that car, especially in the Winston Cup Series..
Had a top 10 going at Dover until the car went sour...
Ran well at Daytona until that big mess with Kurt Busch..
8th at Loundon..
Pole at Charlotte for the Winston Open..
Poles at Daytona and Fontana..

Steve can get the job done!

But that is what I see happening...or Park may go to some other CUP team.

I can't wait till this rumor dies or it is confirmed, something.

Congratulations on your return Bud_Stud.

Anyway with Tony Stewart's horrible championship defense and the number of engine problems theyve had this season, I wouldnt be surprised if Stewart did leave. But Chip Gannassi will have most of their resources already focused on Sterling Marlin, it'd be better if Stewart can find another team that divides it's emphasis on all their race teams like DEI or Roush or RCR. As for Steve Park, he hasnt really recovered in a race car since that accident in '01, I think he is showing signs of recovering, but I think he will prove himself and stay in the 30 car as long as he continues to score Top 5s, and Top 10s and Top 20s.

IF tony went to Ganassi, I can not see him taking a back seat to Marlin. Especially at 5 mil plus bonuses a year. That's why I have hard time thinking he will go with Ganassi, Marlin just resigned til 2005 right? I just don't think it will happen, just wish he would hurry up and resign with Gibbs so the rumors stop.

Remember all the swirl around Junior not signing with DEI promptly last year.? Could be the same type of thing.

Gibbs and Stewart could just be trying to get all the "i"s dotted, and the "t"s crossed.

I hope that is exactly what is happening. I just find it difficult to believe that with the history Tony has with Zippy, he would leave Gibbs without him.

Why would he leave without him? You really think contracts are worth a damn in NASCAR?

N2, you do have a point, but I find it difficult to comprehend someone doing that to Coach Joe. I could be wrong, and have been before, but........................silly season is in full swing!

Like I said before... look what could happen.

Tony Stewart goes to the #41...
Casey Mears goes to the #30...
Ward Burton goes to the #20...
Scott Wimmer goes to the #22...
Steve Park goes to Busch Series...

Yes Silly Season IS IN FULL SWING!

I dont know if this will happen or not, but I'd like to see DEI close the doors on the 1 team. They haven't been up to speed since 2001...
Spend all the $$$ on Jr's team and Waltrip's team.

I agree with you BUD Stud; the third car at DEI has always been the after thought car, why bother anymore with it and stay focused on the 8 and 15. Penske and Gibbs do pretty well with only two cars.

That makes sense i agree, especially since Mikey and Jr are doing well ,in the top 10 in points. Might make more sense to concentrate their resources on 2 teams and get 1 of them a championship.

To me, it makes sense. The 8 and 15 are both really close to that championship this year, no doubt about it. Also, I would fix up RCR, possible make it a 2 car team. If it wasn't for Steve, I would axe the 30 team ASAP. The 29 has turned the corner in performance, and so has the 31.

I have to agree, but on some points I have to disagree. The 1 team has been the longest living team in DEI and it was made by Dale Earnhardt; so sedimentality can play a big role in the deciding factor. I'd like to see a young gun from Busch Series in that car like Scott Riggs (who is rumored to be in that team by next year BTW) and they just need someone who can familiarize with the team.

Jeff Green has only been in the car 5 or 6 races, he cant make roses out of a bad situation with a crew that's obviously demoralized; Jeff hasnt had enough seat time in there to make a difference. Steve didnt recover in time to make a difference but in my opinion, it was a bit premature to release him; DEI shouldve given him more time. Then again that's my .02 right there

Steve is a lot better off in the 30 car. He's shown that he can still run with the big boys of NASCAR. Last year, he scored his only top10 finish at Indy, so lets see if he can improve on that this weekend.

As far as the 1 team goes.. there really isn't anything you can say. Performance is down, team is down,.. its just not gelling the way it should be. I know Dale Sr created this team and all, but its just not up to par anymore. I'm not the only one who realizes this, just ask Pennzoil..

I dont think the 1 can attract a sponsor before the years done unfortunately. If Nextel hadnt been the new sponsor of Cup, the 1 couldve made a pass at AT&T. I dont think Smirnoff Ice will sign up (cuz of DEI's commitment with Anheuser Busch). I think Kraft may sign up for the role
