Ohio State looks pretty good tonight

As I sit here at about 11:20pm the Buckeyes are up 28-3 against Washington.

Some thoughts on what I've seen tonight...

I really expected them to struggle a little more without Maurice Clarett than they are tonight.

Maurice Hall and Lydell Ross look like very capable fill-ins for Clarett while they try to sort out his eligability.

Their defense looks very dominating against the Huskies who had a total of 0 rusing yards in the first half.

Craig Krenzel is showing last year was no fluke and he really is that good.

How in the hell is Krenzel getting all-american grades while majoring in Molecular Genetics and still finding time to lead the best football team in the country? Oh yeah, and they said he just got engaged. Where did he find the time for that type of endeavor?

I think they need Clarett back at some point if they are going to win the championship again this year. They still have to go the road to Michigan this year and it would be nice if Maurice could clean up his act in time to be there for that.

Okay, Here is my opinion. I hope Claurett can't come back. There is way too much negativity around him. Last year when he made a huge production out of not getting home for that funeral, that just turned me off to him. And everything else that has come out about him, the team doesn't need that. Hall and Ross did just fine without him. You are right 4X, Krenzel has got his stuff together.
What I didn't like tonight was the second half. Tressel was playing conservative ball. I mean fourth and inches and the score was 28-3 and they don't go for it? That drives me nuts. All in all they played good ball tonight.
I would love to see them repeat as Champs without Claurett.

Thanks for chiming in Dee. And good morning by the way :)

I wouldn't mind seeing them win the championship again this year without Clarett. But, they would be much more likely to win it if he is back ans healthy. I too am very fed up with his selfish act, but I still hope he can grow up a little bit. I have seen him play hurt. When he came from nowhere to strip the ball from the Miami player who had intercepted in the Championship game that showed a lot of heart. He could have pouted about Krenzel making a dumb play, or sulked but he didn't. He decided to try to pick up a teammate. It was a split-second decision that shows me that he may be a better guy deep down than what he shows when he has time to think about his decision. Does that make sense? Either way, that defense is likely going to be the key to winning it all again this year. That Washington quarterback threw for over 4,500 yards last year and the Buckeyes totally dismantled them last night.

Also, I kind of liked Tressell calling off the dogs when the game was out of reach. What I always hated about guys like Steve Superior at Florida was when they would run up the score on a clearly overmatched team. If it was a top 10 team I could see it, but those kids out there didn't deserve to have their noses rubbed in it on national TV. JMHO.

Morning to you too 4X.
Okay no arguing that Claurett can play ball. And without him last year the Buckeyes wouldn't have the Championship. I am just sick of hearing how we can't do anything without him. That's not good for the team. They need to know they can win without him.
About playing conservative ball, my thoughts about last night are this, yes the were ahead and you are right the game was pretty much over, but I also see it as a chance to see what they really have. I wanted to see if they could have made it...
The defensive is stout, they impressed me. And the offensive didn't look bad either. This is going to be a good year, with or without Claurett.

I get sick of hearing that too. As I said earlier I thought they would miss him more than they did last night myself. Ross and Hall didn't impress me much at all last year. But, when they had time to get a few carries and not have to worry aboout trying to hit the home run every time they touched the ball they played very well. It usually takes most good running backs several carries to get into a rhythm and they both did so last night. I think they showed everyone (including maybe themselves) that they can win without Clarett last night. I just hope they don't have to keep proving that all year ;)
