OK, FOX just pi**ed me off

I really hate the wy the media does that too TRL.

DL & I are always ussing and cussing about that.

Just saw an ad for the Saturday night race at Richmond.

What clip did they show --- Carl's wreck at Talladega.

Horse hockey.

I saw the same thing during the local news'

"State of Emergency"

coverage.

Well accidents sell, but this time I think that there will be more reactions in the negative form from the fans. As a result of Newman getting under Edwards as he was coming down and forcing him up into the catch fence, Nascar will be forced to do something. There were people hurt, I'm sure one or more will try to bring some kind of law suit against Nascar as a result of this. Nascar of course will put to rest any of this negative publicity and in turn "fix" the problem at Dega. In the meantime they will get all the mileage they can in the positive form from this incident. After all attendance is down this calls for "desperate measures" don't you know.:sarcasm:;)

You should be mad at speed also. They show it for a commercial for NASCAR Raceday. I really don't care what the show. They have to show excitement and drama just like anything else.

I'm not sure what everyone expects. It certainly grabs you attention. I saw the commercial last night on FOX and was a little surprised that they had already incorporated that shot into their advertising. I would imagine that if a non-NASCAR fan were to see that, it would possible peak their interest. I don't see anything wrong with it. This sport could always use more fans.

haven't seen anyone suggest this yet but how about installing depressed rails into the tracks and attaching a tie-down to the cars. any car that goes say a foot off the track gets gets stopped. <g>

Just make them all a slot car with a tether! Now that's a classic idea. Nice one! :beerbang:

slot cars with tie downs lol

That is amazing, and just goes to show you how desperate Nascar and Fox is getting. There have been some great races and finishes at Richmond. The racing there is much better than at Talladega. Why not show some of the exciting action in past Richmond races? I totally agree with those of you who give a thumbs down to this tactic.

You all are too touchy on this subject IMO. What was it, two, maybe three seconds of a commercial. What is a better way to grab your attention in that short of a time span than that out of control car careening along the front stretch fence @ Talladega? Personally I'd prefer the shot of the rather attractive blond in the cutoff shorts wearing the small crop top with a great big pair of.....ahh of... sunglasses jumping up and down rooting her driver on but I digress. Seriously though, what exciting moment that spans that shot of time would you show to get peoples attention?

It's simply a FOX promo. Richmond is this week. Next week the promo will be for Darlington, then Charlotte & Dover. Then we'll all be done with FOX. Soon TNT, ESPN & ABC will be doing the same type of commercials. Promo's like that are nothing new.

TRL, stop and think for just a minute. Put yourself in the postion of Fox and are now their advertising guru. Your mission is to attract as many people as you can to watch a race at Richmond. That ad was obviously not aimed at anyone in this forum. To get loyal watchers, you first have to get them to view the product and then hope they like what they see. We all know that danger exists in the sport of autoracing and people have always been drawn to such crashes, whether it's live or on tape. If you are a newbie, might you wonder if you'll see something like what happened to Carl if you watch the Richmond race? Newbies will know nothing about that track and won't know that the guys don't race nearly as fast, or in a pack, or what ever. It may or may not be an advertising coup, but I'm sure that it will pique the interests of some newbies.

Now if I were that ad exec and I wanted to attract people of this forum, I would use the before mentioned scantily clad women. Might not do anything for the women here, but sure would get the men's attention, if not for the race, for the commercial. :)

Well said. :beerbang:

I feel really bad that the girl who was hurt the worst was at her very FIRST NASCAR race. What a way to experience the sport for the first time. Yikes.

I'm getting tired of watching Carl's wreck. It's been on all kinds of TV shows ALL WEEK LONG. It's been on internet sites which rarely cover much regarding NASCAR at all. So those of us who watch regularly, are really tired of it and think it's a cheap shot.

That being said, guess what got me interested in NASCAR after it had been on in my house for decades? I watched a few laps here and there, but it was a spectacular finish that I happened to walk in and see and I was saying, "WOW!!!!!" Each week I started watching more and more of the races. I started out maybe watching the last 25 laps, then 30 laps. Then I started taping races but would go walk out and go to a neighbor's in the middle of a race. Within a few weeks, there was no way, no how I was going anywhere but a quick step outside my door during a commercial. I've watched and taped and maybe watched later if I couldn't catch it live, every race since then. Was every race as exciting as the first finish I saw? NO, but I got more and more interested every week. So with that being said, I have to say it probably is a good way for "noobs" to find some interest. Some will stay some will go.

As for me, my husband thinks I'm a bit of a fanatic after he watched for years and years and I used to roll my eyes about cars going around in circles. He doesn't really mind except when he wants to watch hockey or something and has to leave the room. LOL Sort of ironic, huh? ;)

So what you are saying is let's ty to sucker the newbies into thinking that there will be a horrific crash and that people will get seriously injured or killed. When that does not happen, maybe a few will hang on to watch us next week. That is the biggest joke I have ever heard. And you people wonder why Nascar is failing. Fox wonders why their ratings are dropping. This is an advertising failure because it will cause more people to turn the race off than it will attract newbies, especially on a Saturday Night. I'm sure that people have a lot more things to do than to watch some stupid rodent, listen to some rather uneducated announcers, and watch cars run around at 50-60 MPH slower than they thought they would see. Terrible advertising. Just terrible. The fact is that Richmond is one of the more exciting tracks to see a race at. Why not advertise all the positives about Richmond? Why take a negative and try to make it you biggest selling point? Richmond has so much to offer, why not educate the newbies about that?

BigDaddy, buck was just yanking my chain. :D

But, he does make a valid point about execs using whatever means possible to increase viewership. I understand it, but I don't have to like it.

Actually, I am beginning to believe that Bigdaddy is a newbie. All his talk about how he can beat anyone here, that we know nothing, but that he can take out money quickly. Now I ask the rest of you, doesn't that sound like a 13 year old? Sorry Littleboy, but your opinions now have no credibility with me. Take your ball and go home.

I agree Buck, the only thing he' proved to me is how ittle he actually does know.

:bsflag:

He's driven at tracks faster than Talladega in cars faster than these COT cars, and he's an expert on all things racing because he drove late models in the 1960s.
