OK, So you didn't like Toyota in Nascar?

So we will have 2 US manufactors (GM and Ford), 1 Italian (Dodge), 1 Japanese (Toyota) and 1 German (VW).

I like it. Now we just need to dump the V-8s and get some Turbocharge V-6 engine out there!

Honestly we need to re-do the whole engine package. When was the last time you've driven a RWD car? Most cars on the road today have fuel injection engine FWD.

Toyota Camery is a V6 FWD
Chevy Impala is a V8 FWD
Dodge Charger is a V8 RWD
Ford Fusion V6 FWD

Dodge Charger is the only one that's still RWD.

Already happed, Lindsey Lohan was the driver:D

I dug through the archives and found this.....

When was the last time a GM rearend was used? As far as I'm concerned, the only difference in the cars is the decals. I've never seen a 358 ci Toyota engine, and as far as that goes, you aren't able to get one of those in a GM, Ford or Chrysler either....unless you are a gazillionaire or a NASCAR team owner.

As for VW, geez, my first recollection of a VW was a Bug and I owned one of them, a '65 version. How things have changed. A Touareg is a giant VW!

The Toyota Tundra comes with a 5.7L iForce. That's a 350. Dodge has the 5.7 Hemi, also a 350. Yea, the cup cars aint hemi's, but they got the displacement right.

Ford doesn't have a 5.7, nor does chevy

How conceited can people get when they think that Nascar should never change as of the date which they became a fan?

If they want tradition, go back to Charlotte and race! No Bristol, no Watkins Glen, no Richmond and certainly no Martinsville.

I welcome newcomers...But seems like VW doen't have a clue what NASCAR is all about..Sorry VW your cars will be just like ours

VW needs to be in a series where the company can "display our German technology, and (NASCAR) is a marketing (platform),"

Martinsville has been on the schedule since season one:confused:

Please, try not to confuse this thread with facts! :D They get in the way of a good debate. Next thing you know someone is going to tell us that the first NASCAR race @ Watkins Glen was held in 1957 and that it was won by Buck Baker. They may even go as far to say that the first NASCAR race @ Richmond was in 1953 and won by Lee Petty.

Pesky facts:rolleyes:

Last time i checked Dodges were still made in the USA.

Actually if I'm not mistaken, the Charger and Challenger are built in Brampton, ON.

If we were to go buy where the cars are manufactured, Toyota might be the only "American" car on the track, and we'd have Canada and Mexico also represented.

Well, The Camry is made in the USA, The Charger is made in Canada, the Impala is made in Canada, so that Makes Toyota the only American car?

Or you can look at it as "Who owns the company?" and you end up where I did.

Or we can just agree it's a moot point. I know a pilot who ships in all the parts from your cars, and they come from everywhere to the assembly plants. Mexico, Canada, Japan, etc. To be honest, there is no such thing as an "American made Car" anymore.

You can say what you want about Toyota but they employ a lot of US citizens, the cars are built in the US and they did not take any bailout money from the government.

We have a winner.

BMW has a plant in Greer, South Carolina. Plus they build some V-8s.

Maybe BMW should be getting into Nascar.

Where was the first true Nascar "stock car" race held?

That would be Charlotte Speedway on June 19, 1949. That's not to be confused with Charlotte Motor Speedway which held it's first race exactly 11 years to the day later. Jim Roper won the first race in a '49 Lincoln, leading 47 of 197 laps and taking home a $2000 paycheck. It was a .750 mile dirt track and was supposed to run 200 laps. I don't know why it ended early. The finishing order from that first race can be found here. Some interesting names in there.

Good article on the history of that track can be found here.
