I don't know much about the IRL but I was watching the Homestead race and why is there a picture of the leader or whatever on the racetrack?

Uuuuuummmmm....

I don't believe that pic is actually on the track. The TV folks kinda superimpose that pic on your TV picture.

I would imagine one of the big reasons for doing so, is because the IRL, like any other racing series, wants to attract more and more fans. For the vast majority of folks this means they have to identify with the drivers. Since the newer watchers of the IRL, perhaps even some of the more seasoned, would not know many of these drivers if we sat down next to them it is a good way to promote the sport through fan identification.

For the 500 they add billboards on the infield in the same way. Since Indy does nto have any anywhere or paint the grass the TV needs to advertise somehow so they just superimpose the billboards or grass logos in. Its kinda cool how they do it!! Kinda like the yellow line on the football games

They do an absolutely fantastic job covering the races. NASCAR has 45 minutes to an hour of complete garbage before each race, whereas everyone else gets right down to business.

Top notch race yesterday, loved every minute of it.

I really liked the Pit road graphics, I did not even have to pay attention to where the team cars were pitting because they put the drivers name next to the pit box for the cars that look identical. That helps a lot because I am a drivers fan more than I am a team fan and like to keep an eye on my driver without wondering if that is him or not in the pits.

It was a good race, I do wish they would cover more of the off season maneuvering tho, I was surprised by a few of the entrants and did not even realize who some of them were driving for until the race was underway. A little bit of pre-race would be nice for that reason.

I agree, but just in case you didn't know.... ESPN2 has "IRL2DAY" on every sunday before the race. It usually comes on at 12. Not as informative about all the drivers as the nascar pre-race show, but as good as the IRL has right now.
