Former Chemical/Wacs/and MP training base. I was stationed here 20 years ago and even then I had a sense of nostalgia for the place because my Dad was here in the fifties.

Now tonight I find myself around the old base which is largely in civilian hands used largely as a HQ for Chem-response and emergency training and teams. The Anniston Army Depot is near here and this makes a pretty convenient base of operations for all chemical related task forces.

Kind of sad to see what has become of this old military 'campus' --as we called it.Still kept up well, but the feel is just different somehow. Makes me wonder why I ever lost touch with some of the guys I served all those years with..

Got a tattoo on my right bicep near here,my old buddy Chris Fonares (from somewhere :New York,I think) got one the exact same day...the Platinum Club was near here too. LOL,can't go into details about that place too much, but it was a- uh--dancing establishment devoted to the appreciation of the female form. This was a wild town in '83.....

Damn...Military cutbacks in this day and time.

Nothing really colder than a former army town--just kind of a melancholy feeling and the reason I have rambled on like this I guess...

Goodnight forum guys...catch ya'll tomorrow.

Nice to be talking to someone who was in the U.S Army Chemical Corps and who knew how it was like.

I think my brother along with other soldiers from around the country who are in the U.S Army's 375th Chemical Company are over there at Ft. McClellan or possibly around that area.

I did remember your brother is in the Chemical Corp,Hap.

This is a big Chemical training area, and yes, without going into details,a degree of military training is still being conducted around here presently . Was kinda hoping this post would catch your eye. Ft.Mc. is a good training area.

:salute:

If I'm not mistaken, its where the Army and Marines sent MP's to be trained too.....I know several guys who went through there.

I've never been to the base itself, just driven through Anniston on my way back home....its a shame that it and every other base that was shut down, was.

Still can't figure out why the military was cut back so much......

Edit.....Sorry 97, just saw that you said it was an MP base....

Yeah Fergy, Fort Mc. was definately a big MP base as well, and you are correct marines as well as army trained there. :salute:
