Old Dominion Speedway

Well, a few drivers in the legends class didn't want to race so the races got canceled. Track's dry, everything's fine. A little bit of mist during the UCAR race but they got the track dry and didn't have a single wreck. Legends cars get on the track and three drivers complained that the track was too wet. Track officials kept going out and the track was dry but the same guys said it was wet.

So, race got canceled.

Now, one of those drivers was walking around the pits hoping the race would get canceled because he had a poor qualifying run and thought he'd get wrecked since there were 25 legends cars in the field.

Needless to say I'm not very happy. Two hours each way, and no race. Fortunately for ODS, most of the spectators (all 60 of them:rolleyes:) didn't know what was going on.

Pathetic.

That's funny....I was there and it was a little bit of mist, but it kept falling and most of it fell after the UCAR. The reason the shut it down for the night was because when the drivers shifted into third, their wheels spun and they couldn't get their tires warm.

I've been to Old Dominion several times, and I've never seen problems from mist that light. The track was wet in the same sections earlier, because of the rains last night. And the legends cars had problems all day during practice, more so than the other classes. All I'm saying is there were complaints from drivers regarding the legends all day, and there were drivers who didn't want to race. Most of the mist I felt was during the red flag in UCAR.

I was getting really irritated during the support classes. Before they did pre-race ceremonies, everyone in the tower was concerned about weather. During the driver's meeting, they said they were going in hurry-up mode and that they wanted the cars on the track and ready to go right after the previous class ended. Instead, we had a 15 minute wait between the Mini-cup and Mini-mod.

It was a flustercluck, no way around it....they wanted to hurry and the race still started late and like you said, the delay between the races.

I'll chalk it up to first-race-of-the-season jitters...the National Anthem was very good though.

The crowd will get better...tonight was the Potomac Nationals opening night and I figure some people went to that.

Don't let tonight set the tone for the rest of the season there...

It's going to get better for sure. There are a few teams at South Boston that are considering running Old Dominion because the races at SoBo have been pure awful, and the fans that go there every week are pissed off.

Like I said, I've been to ODS many times and never seen them mismanage a hurry up situation.

Many of the fans who were there are not regulars... I hope this didn't hurt their opinion of the track.

I wonder why Hobbs was a no show. As late as 10pm last night, she said she couldn't wait to get to the race.
